Post Your Experience With Fabspeed Chip

I knew the Search, I used the Search, I felt the Search, I was the Search, I became the Search!
...but still need your opinion guys.

The car I have is 1995 with Fabspeed Supercup exhaust system and Fabspeed Supercup airbox cover. It sounds great. It runs great. It feels great!
But I need some more ...a lot more ...much more!!!
Well. The latest idea is to replace the factory chip to something more "individual" or "personalized". Steve's chips as I see get most of the respect and appreciation. But it looks like my car has been already modified mostly by Fabspeed products. I thought that Fabspeed Performance Chip would logically close the circle: Fabspeed Intake (supercup open cover) -> Fabspeed Chip -> Fabspeed Exhausts.
To make the idea of getting Fabspeed Chip even more attractive I found this statement on www.fabspeed.com: "...1995 993 chip designed for the above Supercup exhaust with BMC air filter/Carrera Cup Airbox Cover Lid..."
Well. First of all the chip supposed to deliver more HPs by new remapping itself. Secondly. The whole story would benefit from having Supercup exhausts and airbox cover (the chip was optimized to work with them).
And last. The guy on the phone from fabspeed said that they would take into account the California 91 low performance gasoline. And that the all modifications made to the car will be taken into account before mapping of the chip begins. In case if I move to another state (to 93 Octane Gas State lets say) or if I would make any other mods to the car they would remap chip for additional fee (50 dollars).
All seems to be right. But the things tend to happen in real life a little differently. Any "real" stories about fabspeed chips...service...etc?

Thanks!

Now I'm not sure what the hell Jimbob just wrote... But I too have the supercups, airbox with lots of holes ect. I've got Steve's chip and let me say, it rocks! Nothing against Joe (I like the guy), but why would you look at a chip that has no reviews here???? Joe makes great pipes, Steve makes great chips and will give you more free advice without trying to sell you anything. Do a little research, there are not that many people writing code for our DME's (the program, unichip and some doctor with a lot of free time on his hands). I respected the opnions of this board and did my own fact finding when looking for a chip for my car. My conclusion was the Rennsport System chip would give me the performance. I was happy with the results as I'm sure you can see. The only reason for this long post is to save you some time and money. A couple of years ago, someone here told me, do it right the first time and you wont have to do it over again. Just my 2 cents

I think you should trust Steve on this one and in many other areas. He has been very helpful on and off this forum. Joe's story changes too often for me on the chip topic and other dealings with him leave me with a bad taste.

Good luck on your quest for more power!

I had a fabspeed chip in my 964 (so not a direct comparison). First of all the fabspeed chip is not made by fabspeed (even if it has their sticker on it). It is made by Cyntex. Cytnex does a great job making chips as well and I would trust him wholeheartdly. Although I was NOT pleased with my fabspeed chip. Fabspeed actually gave me the wrong chip with the wrong mods and it caused my car to knock (even with the knock sensor ignition) & idle irregularly. I called fabspeed and they couldn't figure it out. They gave me the number to Cyntex and he did figure it out.

From my experience comparing a cyntex chip to an autothority. I've had both in the same car (both custom chips). The cyntex was better without a doubt. Aside from the butt dyno the cyntex produced 10 more rear wheel hp as measured by Gtech. So for what it is worth....

Cheers,
Boris

GJ,

You stated it slightly more directly but I agree with you! Joe may have gotten money off of me by ripping me off but he has lost far more dollars as a result

Hi Kary
Happy New Year.
I did nothing whatsoever to harm you over 2 years ago..... and I dont know what the GJ person is referring to.

Kary you specifically requested and I special ordered you BBS GT2 style 18" wheels for your 993 just like mine and they were perfect. You mentioned these were for your track car/street car and that you were planning aggressive suspension changes and alignment changes. At ordering time I mentioned that special orders are not returnable/nonrefundable.

At mounting time "you completely changed your mind and decided to keep the original "Bone Stock super soft 993 suspension and just add lowering springs" and not even add some camber.

Consequently, your 993 with the stock super soft springs occassionally rubbed either the fender lips on speedbumps and highspeed highway dips. Your mechanic and I talked and some minor modifications were necessary with a TECH ART TOOL to make sure you had a little more clearance with your new dynamite wheels......... you simply refused and didnt want to make any changes and I couldnt take the special ordered wheels back. This happened OVER 2 years ago.

My friend you shortly thereafter installed a sport suspension and alignment and have been tearing up racetracks out west for a long long time. Your car looks great, runs great in your posts and I wish you and your family the best!

As far as chips go. I work with Cyntex and were are located in Philadelphia, have a dyno and emulator and Larry Burstein and Paul Schwartz have dynotuned 100 upon of 100s of 911s/964 and 993s. You name the engine, capacity, cam, exhaust system, intake configution and any other combination and its in the CHIP database ready to be shipped. The stuff works and is not a GIAC chip and doesnt need a encription board located underneath.

Boris, when I order a chip and there is a problem Cyntex instructs me to have the customer call him for if problems occur. They can custom tailor a chip and /or revise it as necessary. I am glad your car runs so strong!

Have a great new Year.

Happy New Year to you as well Joe!

Interesting how you recall the series of events. I know what the series of events was as does the shop you spoke to. You cetainly do not want to know what they think of you....

Best of luck to you!

Joe,

I was very happy with the chip and it ran strong and worked out once I got the right one! As a sidenote, I will point out one thing. Paul (@ cyntex) was fairly irrate when I called with the problem and referred me back to you. I convinced him to do it directly and actually sent him the chip with a prepaid overnight back to me. Like I said it all worked out in the end. I even posted my results on the 964 forum.

I would buy a fabspeed/cyntex chip again... And when ordering a custom chip I can see how some of this confusion can happen.

Cheers,
Boris

Sputnik,
I had a Fabspeed/Cyntex in my ’95. Now I have Steve’s chip. Want to buy my old Fabspeed/Cyntex chip?

I have a Fabspeed cat back system on my car and an Autothority chip. I love both but I did have a problem with Fabspeed. The system they sent had one tip that was welded at the wrong angle. My mechanic called Fabspeed and after considerable arguing they said they would send another. Four weeks later I still had not gotten my new tips. I called Fabspeed and was told that they had a problem that all of their mufflers were matched with tips and if they sent me a new set of tips they could not sell the mufflers. I told them that was their problem and mine was that my car looked foolish with the bent tip. They said they would the new set out that day but they wanted the old tips sent back because they did not believe either my mechanic or me. Then they called my mechanic and told him that I needed to "chill out." I got my new tips which are beautiful but I had to pay to send their defective tips back. I called and left a message for Mr. Fabiani to call me back so we could discuss it but as I expected I received no return call.
If you read on the PCA technical forums you will also find out the admin there has also had customer service problems and will no longer do business with them.
I love the merchandise but until they improve their customer relations I will never buy anything else from Fabspeed although I do wish you luck.

hmmm....I was thinking of buying a set of cat-backs but now I'm not so sure. Perhaps a second hand set would be the way to go...anyone out there have set they are looking to sell? If so, please PM me.

I've bought from Joe before and plan to do so again. I have had nothing but good experiences with him and love his exhaust products.

If there is a problem you can always seek resolution through your credit card.
