I personally could care less about their numbers and power levels, all I care is how I feel when I get behind the wheel. If I like it then it's mine. So why do we buy into " fast "? Pure marketing is why...
It's the same reason why cars that try to use a healthy concept from the driver's perspective like the Cayman GT4 or 911R will continue to win awards, because a good car is not only about " fast ".
If you want analog feel and engagement and don't care about fast, why don't you have a 993 or earlier. with those you can at least feel somethong

You are right, that is my plan. I think ideally you'd have an older Porsche and a new one.
One problem is the ever increasing prices of older Porsches, plus I can't say I'm a big fan of chasing little quirks constantly, even though I love to DIY. A well sorted older 911 is what I'll be after and of course, that will come with a price.
Another thing is that I like having factory warranty,so that's an advantage. Plus Porsche can still make a new car feel pretty good and involving. That may be the case with the new 991.2 GT3 with a manual. We'll see...

You had me until that very last part. I may end up buying a .2, but during my test drive it was obvious the car was FI.

Yeah, only if the Singer 964s were more affordable.

I hope this doesn't turn into a pissing contest. There is no "better car" between the .1 and .2. They're two different driving experiences, completely. Like RWD vs AWD.

That being said, NA engines pair well with a MT.

Well a 6cyl vs an 8? No contest. Emission laws are unforgiving to European manufacturers.

WRONG.

We don't need a pissing contest because everyone knows the .1 is better.

What kind of HP can you get on this 991.2's with minor mods? Ecu flash prob elevates performance as well.

very suspect. 991.2 on crappy Pirellis vs. 991 GT3 on Mich Cup 2s.....

Sounds like election tactics are bleeding into Marketing .......

It's funny (and I agree with the above) that this argument is being used in the context of comparing a 991.1 vs a 991.2. For most people 991s have no feel and that same argument is generally made to compare a 997 vs 991.1 or 993 Vs 996/7 etc... Each generation getting more digital.

In terms of feel, nothing will beat a 356 or an early 911. But in terms of staying alive or extracting maximum speed, the later car will always win. The 991.2 is a beast and the only thing I'm not overly fond of is the vertical grill (for some reason I see a BBQ there). The torque is what that car always needed... I'd extend that to the 718 - the new cayman S is fantastic with the extra torque but it lost some sweet sound, the 991 kept it for the most part !

When I was in the market very recently I was looking for a 997 because I drank the magazine Kool Aid and wanted the raw feel of hydraulic power steering of a 997. Absurd 997 pricing aside, once I drove a 991, the 997 felt like a noisy donkey cart to me. For the "feel" side I decided my 1972 911T would trump them all anyway... I suggest that people looking for the ultimate feel nowadays turn to a 65-68 912 - tons of fun at 45 mph - while they're still affordable (ish), then buy a 991 (whichever) for speed ;-) Happy times !

You have to share a picture of your 1972.
