Extended height armrest console lid installation (heavy picture warning)

Just did mine. Piece of cake. Only thing I'd note is that the plastic tabs that cover the pins are very fragile. Mine broke off. Didn't affect installation and new extended console looks great. Crest is a nice touch also. Ordering was easy. You will get there parts. Extended cover, new extended lid (inside) and hinge assembly, and new extended lid spring.
Agree w/others contorting oneself to fit in the back seat was the worst part of the install. Took 30-40 mins tops with breaks.

I broke the tabs on this piece too. I ordered a replacement which was 10-15 dollars I think? It's wasn't super pricey. Could be worth just ordering one when doing this job.

Don't think it makes much difference with the missing tabs on re-install but interested in the parts number you used. Thanks

Thanks for the great photos and instructions! Just installed mine this morning on my 2015 Carrera 4. Took me about an hour. The hardest part was getting the pivot pin back in and getting the plastic piece that covers the pin back on. Just took about 15 minutes of tinkering with them to get them back in. This job also reinforced that I will never be riding in the back seat!! My elbows are now even when I have them on the arm rests, and the Porsche crest is a nice touch. It's amazing how that 1 inch lower center arm rest was such an annoyance.

Gents:
Thanks for the kind words, this is not as complicated as it seems, the hardest part is contorting yourself into the back seat. It's a 6 step approach:
1. Remove back seat - 10 min. max
2. Remove OEM armrest from OEM lid - 5 min. max
3. Pull pin and remove OEM lid. - 2 min max.
4. Insert new extended height lid - 5 min max
5. Attach extended height armrest to new lid - 5 min max
6. Replace seat - 5 min max.
Here are a few more pictures that will help.

First, thank you to shaginwagon for the write-up, this has given me the confidence to order this part.
Second, does anyone know the part number for the extended height console lid in black? I'd like to try and order this here in Canada as it's so expensive to order from the US. The local dealer gave me a price of $308 Canadian, but I'm sure that is for the standard lid. If I had the part number I could try to be certain.
Thanks!!

Color options
Noticed this does not come in many colors. My interior is garnet red .. so oem rest is red... top dash is black.. I’m thinking a black armrest might break up the red a little in a positive way...
thoughts? I hate to say it but I almost think the interior is “ too” red....
Thanks
Andrew

A question for anyone who has done this mod:
Does the increased height allow you to rest your right elbow on the center console while cruising the highway with only your right hand on the steering wheel? This is one of my favorite long distance cruise positions with my right arm but it is just not possible in my 911 due to the low height of that center console. I normally find myself with both hands on the wheel on the 911 which is normal for spirited driving on windy roads but I do wish I could do highway cruising with one relaxed hand on the steering wheel. But if I can't accomplish that then the $500 upgrade is not worth it to me...

Great write up and pics. Makes the DIY very clear—excellent really. Suncoast doesn’t show the extended height console lid for the 991.2. I notice you have .2, did you buy the .1 part? If not, can you give us the part number for the.2?
Thanks again for the great post.

^^^ This. Otherwise, I am not sure why you want it.

The new console helps that elbow position. It's not perfect but much better. I, like you, like to rest my right elbow. This console raises the height 1" and is an improvement.

Shaginwagon thank you so much!\
just did it with my 12 year old son helping, took about 30-40 minutes, nothing broken. love the way the black interrupts the red interior!
