No horn
#16
I'm pretty sure one of my horns (not sure if the high frequency or low frequency) is out. Does our front bumper cover really need to come off the 991 to access the horns? Back in the 997 days, IIRC, it was in the frunk near the battery try. Please advise. Thanks.
Hoping to get addressed next week during a routine oil change.

1. Unscrew the 5 fasteners holding the front apron in place underneath the bumper cover (this is the plastic piece covering the area just behind the rear-edge of the bumper cover)
2. With the 5 fasteners removed, pull down on the plastic cover, bending it down.
3. There is a single fastening nut holding the horn bracket in place -- I don't recall the size of the fastener, sorry. But you need to remove the horn and bracket as a single assembly.
4. Release the single electric plug from the bracket / horn and pull-out.
If I recall, you have to be a bit of an arm-contortionist to get in there and remove the assembly, especially if you don't have your car up on a lift. Some might find it easier to just remove the front bumper cover.... or have the dealer do it. 2. With the 5 fasteners removed, pull down on the plastic cover, bending it down.

The position of the two horns? One on each side....

Actually, No, the front cover does NOT need to come off. Here's how to get to the horns (there are two of them!):

Thank you, Sid. So now I am really confused. I think I remember seeing those, when I was doing my fall cleanup in preparation for winter storage. So are these the horns? Or are these sirens related to the alarm system?

Oh, and funny the dealer will remove the bumper... and charge you for the extra labor! There is an official Work Manual they are supposed to be using to match with labor codes in the system. Ask them about WM 905019 Removing and Installing Horn..... Instructs them to follow the steps I outlined in my prev post -- not remove the cover.

One thing I myself am puzzled by is #5 in the picture from PET. It doesn't have an entry in the parts table, whereas #4 does. I'll have to research that a bit myself....
Cheers!

Just found an opportunity to add to this thread... Following is a picture (posted by member shumi_9 in a different thread) of a front cover off a 991. I circled in red the two horns. They are held in place by a bracket that you need to remove to get the horn off.
