Default First scratches.....

Ok - so it happened today. My wife was out enjoying our 991 C2S when she stopped at starbucks and drove into one of those cement parking space curbs. The bottom edge of the plastic nose fairing is scratched up pretty good. It's not completely trashed but it's nor pristine anymore either.

What am I in for? Is this an easily replaceable item? Can I order one and do the wrenching myself or is this a dealer-only repair.

Thanks fpr any input -
TJD

I'd start by taking a deep breath. It's only a car.

First question you have to ask yourself is this: is my wife going to be driving the car again in the future?

The answer to that question will determine your best course of action.

If you have black lip spoiler it is a cheap repair... 150 dollar part and you can do it yourself. Check out suncoast porsche parts website.

Good news: she didn't curb rash a wheel and the lip is pretty inexpensive.

Bad news: there have been a lot of "wife did this to my car" posts lately!

The one on the white car looks a bit more aggressive and nicer look for the standard bumper.

Depends on what exactly you scraped-up.... The black plastic area underneath, or the actual painted cover? So, start with which front facia do you have? Standard, Sport design? In either case they have a replaceable rub strip that simply snaps into place. You can yank the current one off, then snap on the new one. But I would suggest unless it is already damaged to the point of hanging off you should just leave it in place.

The front lips can be had at Suncoast for I think $129 and $229 depending which front end you have.

If you've scraped the painted cover, and you can't live with it, pick the best body shop you can and have it fixed-up, then resprayed. Cost depends mostly on how much repair is needed, your areas going rate, and so on.

Good luck!

TJD - I bought the sun coast sport replacement lip then sold my 991 c2s - send me your info in a pm I will send it to you. I have no need for it. It's "a car" and fixable. Kudos for letting your wife that it out.

This being one of the more common learning curve items to get dinged up, you might not want to be in such a rush to slap a new one on. If it is just badly scratched up it might be worth the experience of touching it up. Cars get chipped and scratched, eventually you will either be doing this yourself or paying someone, might as well get your practice in now on a disposable item. Then go autocross a couple times. (Well you did say thanks for any input!) Feed that lip some cones. Then you'll be ready for a new one!

The hard black plastic lip spoiler? Its a badge of honor to scrape that up, means its not a hanger queen. sand it down if you like, its easy do to. 150 grit, then 400, then 1200 wet to finish. Plastic polish on it then you're good to go until you whack it again.

Scratches on the bottom of the chin spoiler? Trust me, if you drive it instead of park it, there will be more to come. I say just forget about it.

My son banged the boxster door into the side of my 911 when getting out in the garage.
He has been disinherited and will be replaced by a bulldog.

The first scratch is the hardest to accept but let it go. After a week, you will then realize that you can live with it specially if it is underneath. If you can't then just fix it.

I'm sure he'll be walking again in no time. Get well soon.

Are you referring to your wife or the front lip?
