Face Lift .2 991 will arrive as a MY2017...
I want to report to Rennlist on this topic which I know is of interest to many of you. I had face-to-face conversations with knowledgeable sources last week which point out to the following scenario with regards the introduction of the .2 991 facelift models:
There will be a MY2016 991 that will continue to be built as a .1 pre face lift model. The MY2016 will start to be assembled in Zuffenhausen in June of 2015 (similar to the month in which MY2015 commenced to be built in June of 2014). These models will include MY2016 base Carrera, Carrera S, 991 GTS, 991 Targa, 911 Turbo, 911 Turbo S and the new 991 gt3 RS. The only current 991 model not expected to be produced in MY2016 is the 991 gt3. The changes/updates to the MY2016 991s will be minimal. They will all apparently get the new 918/Macan style steering wheel option with the center ring framed by a chrome circle!
The .2 991 face lift models will be introduced at the Biennial (every two years) Frankfurt Auto Show (IAA) in September of 2015. Although the public showing starts on Sept 19th, press days will start on Sept. 15th! Put that date on your calendars and watch the special webcast by PAG of the .2 991 world debut which will be expected on that day!
In addition, the .2 991 face lift models will debut in the US most likely at the Rennsport V scheduled for Laguna Seca in Monterey September 25-27, 2015!

Subsequently, the .2 face lifted 991 will start production at Zuffenhausen sometime later. Some expect it as early as November of 2015 for the European market (just as the first MY2012 .1 991s were introduced in Europe in the Fall of 2011). Others are saying late winter/early Spring of calendar year 2016, which is the most likely scenario of first arrivals in US market. What we know is that all these .2 991s facelift models will be arriving in the US as early MY2017 models!
I have not yet confirmed if the 911 Turbo, Turbo S will be face lifted in this same scheduled...or will be allowed to remain in .1 chassis configuration for a little while longer. These 911 Turbo models were introduced late in the .1 model cycle and technically are not yet due for a face lift re-do. But we don't yet know what PAG is planning to do. Same applies to for the 981 models - Boxsters and Caymans. The Boxster 981 was introduced later than the 991 and the Cayman 981 came almost two years later! We don't yet know if these 981 models will get an early or late facelift.
That's all I know at the moment....

Awesome info. Thanks!!
So 2016's only steering wheels? Last of the NA engines!
Only 2017's will be 991.2's
Any info on the engines!!???
Obviously 991.2 will have no NA engines.

Any official information on the new turbo engines for the .2 991 Carrera and Carrera S is going to come ONLY from PAG/PCNA themselves. None of my contacts want to say anything specific about models that Porsche has not yet officially announced since that is a violation of 'confidentially rules'. So that is part of the 'protocol' of this cat & mouse game, which I understand and am willing to play along!
The only .2 991 model expected to have a NA engine will be the GT models...although no GT3 has yet been announced, or even hinted at, in a .2 post facelift format by PAG to date. In the .2 981 models, there is a very strong possibility that a NA engine will be continued for the GT4. But only if that model is allowed to be produced post face lift 981 (which is very probable). There is unbelievable demand among all US dealers for GT4s. PCNA has already announced to their US dealers via internal memos that they plan to build more GT4s in MY2016 and allocate them to US dealers. But I don't believe dealers have received yet any extra gt4 allocations as of this date. But more are coming...so that is the good news!

The "Macan" steering wheel on 991 pre-facelift 2016's is a surprise. Personally, not a fan of it too much. Much prefer the aluminum Sport Steering Wheel. A cleaner look.
The GT4 is a huge hit. The price point is right on and a great value for the dollar. I'm sure there are more calls about that than the GT3RS. I think there will possibly be more GT4's than GT3's.

So 2016's will be a relatively short run correct?? Half year?
A 2016 GTS NA engine is going to be a keeper. In PTS? Whoa!!
I'm glad they're not splitting up the 991.1 and 991.2 between the same year like 2012 on the last generation change to the 991.

Production numbers on the 2016's should be small I assume? Plus not a lot of dealer inventory build up? I assume a lot of custom orders.
Lava Orange 2016 NA GTS anyone???
Sunroof delete! MT!

I just a confirm from my dealer that I will get a July build for late aug/early sep ED. It will be a MY2016. However my SA thought it would follow the pattern like 2012 where there will be early build MY2016s that will be 991.1 and later MY2016s that will be 991.2

I don't think they want to go down that .5 route again. Too confusing.

Thanks for the info. Most of what was presumed in past discussions.

Brilliant Porsche marketing, manipulating its customers. Letting enough info out about 991.2 turbo motors to produce a stream of orders for the 'last' NA Porsches. Especially the glorious GTS. Now, of course there's 6-8 months more time to order the same, but in 2016 'truly last of' guise. No doubt Porsche will introduce 2-3 more special editions for 2016 to keep the orders flowing. Maybe a 'Ring' edition GTS, followed by a 'Weissach' GTS then maybe the truly last GTS RS. LOL.
