Default 991.2 GTS

Hi guys,
I was thinking of ordering a GTS but in no rush right now. I was wondering what everyone thought would be coming to the refreshed model? Right now it pushes 430hp; I was thinking they'd bump it to around 460hp by that point but then heard about the FI talks and who knows?

I'm also kinda waiting for the 991.2 (not just 991.2 GTS) to see its expected improvements over the current version.

(Expected) Pros:
1. More torque, more power;
2. Subtle refinements on steering and suspension;
3. New 918-type steering wheel;
4. More exterior and interior colors;
5. Other improved minor bits and pieces.

Cons:
1. The sound of turbocharged engine. (This may be subjective. But most people seem to prefer the sound of NA engines, including me.)

30HP you will barely be able to feel, the bigger difference is this will be the last of the NA engines all the new ones will all be turbocharged! So if that makes any difference to you, picking up the final year especially in GTS flavor should hold value really well, I bet the demand for them after the new one comes out increases every year IMO.

If the next gen is all F.I I would question if there will even be an optional "powerkit" available, if there is it would probably just be increased boost or perhaps larger turbos...

I'm guessing the next cars will have at most a +20bhp hike ... they still have to figure out how to keep a margin for any GT3 model which I doubt will go FI ... at least I hope it doesn't...

Wow. And I wanted to wait it out a bit longer before I buy. I really hope they put off the FI across the board!

Normally the GTS and similar "special" models come out near the end of the current model "life" to keep people interested in buying new cars. Doubt a 991.2 GTS would even come much before last year of the 991.2 life span. Check how many "special" 997.2 models there were in the year - 18 months before the 991 showed up.

Well, there's a question "Check out how many "special" 997.2 models there were in the year - 18 months . . ." But no answer so here ya' go. These are worldwide numbers for the 997.2 GTS. How these numbers compare to total 997 production and if it is at all different enough from all other 997s to make it special have been debated ad naseum. Anyway, here's the data, come to your own conclusion.

997 Carrera GTS total: 6.747
997 Carrera GTS Coupé: 2.656
997 Carrera GTS Cabrio: 1.813
997 Carrera 4 GTS Coupé: 1.321
997 Carrera 4 GTS Cabrio: 957

Also keep in mind if it is truly the GTS only that you want, even when the new 991.2 or 992 comes out next year and it is coming next year all new for 2016 there will not be a GTS version for atleast 3 years after! And yes all of them will be turbo motors except the GT3 for 2016 model year! Now if you really like turbo motors and the current turbo is out of reach I would say yes that is the way to go...the benefit of the turbo engine is the Tuners will have a field day with them so you can bet on atleast a 75hp+ and 100+torque increases just with a tune I bet which is attractive for turbos!

I hope you're right. Your logic is, essentially, how I convinced myself to pull the trigger on a GTS build..... April delivery now, ahead of Larry.

Sure you don't want to do May ED and see how fast we can get your SPASM equipped GTS around the Ring?

Did you pop a ducktail on the car?

VERY tempting. I'm anxious to get the car to California though. My friend who lives close to the ring and has ~30 years experience on it has made a very generous offer (according to him) of picking up the car and carefully breaking it in.... somehow I've declined.

My plan is to break it in gently, the hairdresser way, on highway 1 between Monterey and San Louis Obispo

Yes, I went with the duck tail / Sport Design rear. Overall, the configuration (link in my signature) is about as sporty as I think a GTS can get.
