I am not sure why but this appeals to me. The best example seems to be this company or Shelby itself.

This certainly has no nannies, or air bags or shoulder belts unless you order them.
They are loud, raw and I am going to guess squirrely.
My 991S is a fun car I am wondering if this might be more fun.

I remember watching the Cobras race when they first came out. Porsche 911's are iconic, Cobras are too. I would love to own one, but I bet if I drove one for 500 miles I would have had my fill. They really aren't a fast as many newer cars and motorcycles that are safer and far more comfortable. If you can afford what is the essence of "toy", go for it. It won't be a rational decision, but what is when it comes to the cars we love?

I had a fairly authentic replica made by Crendon (the best one on this side of the pond) in late 90's and kept it for a few years till I had to sell due to lack of parking space. It's a totally different kind of fun compared to a 991, not as practical and a bit hairy to drive fast in twisties but in perfect weather it was great. I wouldn't mind pasturing that field again but my 964 provides a similar thrill and is way more practical. They are also available as a convertible if you want open air motoring and is possible to mod the engine & suspension to crazy levels but so far I am enjoying it as is.
I can't see myself selling the 991 for one as each provide a totally different thrill.

Yes a very fast and visceral car. I had a 427 replica for 5 years and it was an experience to drive. Noisy and primitive in a very nice way. After a while the noise wears on you and the ride beats you to death and it becomes a once in a while driver. It was a very worthwhile experience and you cannot compare it to anything else. My neighbors do not miss it at all.

These things are not plug and play turnkey type autos. They need adjusting tuning and maintenance.......and at times, repairs.
Unless you have good basic mechanical skills or do not mind learning and doing such things you will probably need wrench assistance to keep the frustration level at a minimum.
My last was a kirkham, awesome car, company and support.
Good luck in your decision!!

Don't forget the heat in the cabin as part of the "experience". You can fry an egg on that transmission tunnel on a summer evening in those Cobras. That's one of those cars its better to admire and dream about rather than actually owning one.,

drcollie,
Using Dynamat throughout the cockpit/firewall and under the trans tunnel kept the area suprisingly comfortable. Additionally ceramic coating the headers and sidepipes really minimized radiant heat. So much so that the sidepipes could be touched minutes after shut-down.
Fresh air vents for driver/passenger also worked quite well.
I tracked the cars often, and even after 20 minutes of race conditions in 90* heat I never blacked out.
