wow so many GTS posts now. love the car. sorry maybe this was discussed but I have been out of porschedom for a while. really miss my 997 3RS but she just doesn't belong on public roads. was thinking of getting a manual GTS. So if the gen 2 991's come with turbo's does that mean the GTS would be the last MT NA 911 Porsche sells?

Of course you could pick up a used 7.2 GT3 ... the last/best GT3 for non-flappy-paddle loving Grandmas

I definitely think it could be the last N.A engine/MT car ... I think its a good bet that the next 911 will be F.I (turbo-ed) and I should imagine that the 7MT will *eventually* be abandoned ... but perhaps not in the next gen.

love the GT3 especially yours Larry. but as a second car its just not in the cards for me. yes as a third car just for track that would be my first choice but can't swing that yet with the business i started. hopefully we do very well in Augusta and I can get a GT3 back in the stable. for now the GTS is looking like quite a nice usable car and yeah I'm fearing the end of NA/MT in a 911. i also hate sunroofs and couldn't find a non sunroofed C2S if my life depended on it stateside.

I think the rumors of an upcoming turbo auto-only 911 are overblown and you guys are all worrying about nothing. The flat six is an iconic part of the car, and I don't see Porsche doing away with it in the 911. Cayman, Boxster, etc., maybe, but not the 911.
And why do you say that the GTS is the last NA? What about a "normal" 911? GTS is just a 911 S with a bunch of options...
And it's still a sports car, and as long as they are selling manuals to intelligent people like me, they will continue to make it.

If this is in fact the case, then the GTS will be the last (new) model introduced with an N.A powerplant.
YMMV

Love the avatar carrering... Nice to see something different!
As for FI, I'm afraid I might be in the minority in looking forward to this step... I love love love the flat 6 yet I can't help but want the progressiveness of the boxer engine with the punch of a turbine! Now I just need to consult the in-house financial advisor to see if the business case stacks up... Gulp!

If the 2015-16 or current 911 DI flat 6 is the last NA car then it will be something that will stay very desirable.
I'm one for innovation and progression but if the 911 goes 100% forced induction, it's not because Porsche wants it to go there. Their hand is being forced by regulation. Honestly, that's like Domino's being told by the US Government that pizza can only be thin crust for 2016 forward. No traditional crust. Sounds silly but it's the same idea.
I felt the same way. My buddies 996 GT3 was amazing. I said there's no way I will love the 997. Then it came and the 997 3 was it. Now we are onto the 991 and perhaps only turbo. ? Will we all fall in love with the performance? You bet. How could we not?
But this is different this time. Porsche is being told what to do. My 991 with PSE is one of the most amazing sounding 911's ever. Of course it's not a 8,700 rpm Mezger symphony but the sounds it makes is about 70% of the experience for me. Anyone can install an aftermarket exhaust but it's not just that either. It's the way the normally aspirated car builds power and sounds while getting there.
I sure hope this integral part of the experience remains with the all turbo 911. I've said it before but a good friend marvels at how amazing my car sounds compared to his 991 Turbo S.
Porsche. Please don't let us down.
As to the OP's original question. The current 911, GTS normally aspirated cars are the end of something amazing. Will the 991's be as desirable as 993's are now? Only time will tell.
