To be completely honest I kind of miss the days of the G-series. 1973 to 1989? Pretty long run for a very similar body style. Incremental improvements, sure, but nothing drastic.

I replaced a 74S with a 78SC, felt vastly superior for couple of years, and then (for the 30 years that I kept it) grew jealous of later SCs and Carreras that had far better transmissions and clutches, ever more power, and far better build quality- all in a car that no non-Porschephile (and more than a few of those) could tell apart!

I kind of miss it, except when I drive my 991.

LA is the perfect place to release a new model. As stated in every book or magazine I have read (and I DO NOT live in LA nor do I want to live down there) that SoCal is Porsche's most important market, and in that market LA is the most important market in the SoCal market. Its why they build so many Cabs and sunroofs!
Thanks, currently thinking that I will fly down Friday 11/21 to spend the day at L.A convention ctr *if* in fact they launch the facelift and GTS...

I'd also be surprised that the internal moniker would change to 992 as opposed to 991.2 or even more surprised if they introduced a new chassis this early in the life cycle. Stranger things have happened though.

Late last year I spoke to a German P brand ambassador that was pretty forth coming and he said the 991.2 facelift would be introduced in 15 as a 16, guess that was a load of crap.

Should be interesting none the less, Porsche's usually good for at least one unexpected tidbit. So far none of the "updates" are appealing to me, especially the venetian blinds in the grill, that should improve our already ridiculous for a 400hp car, fuel economy by .1 mpg.

not too mention the wider track with 2WD ...

I wonder if they will launch all 4 variants Coupe & Cabriolet 2wd & 4WD?

Interesting... If I were Porsche I would be concerned about selling the 15s for the next 6-12 months depending on when the facelifted car went into production, with this early of an announcement.

Maybe they'll just introduce the GTS variants in LA.

I think they always face this with a new launch... but perhaps you are correct they will only launch the GTS variants and thus not (seriously) impact 15 sales...

That's where they released the last Boxster Spider. Besides they always have their own entire room to themselves. If you're going to release it in the States you should do it at Ground Zero for Car Design; Southern California - in this case Los Angeles.

Why is it so many Car Manufacturer's have at least one of their Design Studios in Southern California? Because it is where the Car Culture get's a lot of it's design and direction. Even though I think Japan, Tokyo really has an awesome scene it for the most part is too FAR OUT THERE. However I remain impressed with what they are doing to their cars.

Some dude in Tokyo own FOUR (4) Bugatti Veyron's - which one is the Vitesse. He also happens to be the only distributor for the TWO Pagani's that come to the country each year. Currently of course being the Ballistic Huayra. He also has two Ferrari F40 Race Cars and one F40 that has like TWO miles on it - Wonder how much that one would go for at auction. Something tells me it would be best suited to get auctioned in the middle east where some head's of some wealthy Oil States could duke it out.

It won't be a new chassis. Someone can correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the chassis are used for about 14 years. Porsche gets their $ out of them. the 996 and 997 shared the same chassis. the 991 is a new chassis that will be used for the 991 and 992 or whatever they will call it.

not entirely true, the 964, 993, 996, and 997 chassis all differed...
