Default Deviating from stock tire size question

Anybody chime in on a quick dilemma? I've seen other posters change the tire size on the base 19" wheels. Anything wrong with going from 235-40-19s to 245-40-19s on the fronts? It looks like there's far more selection at better prices, not to mention it looks like an overall better fit for the car.

According to a tire size calculator it looks almost near the same in diameter at +.3" (sidewall is +.16") but another +.4" in width.

Please excuse my ignorance here if I'm way off base (no pun intended).

Its not ideal but it'll work. As you noted its a very small difference. The most likely situation you might notice is in the rain, where the wider tire will be more prone to hydroplane. Even then its not likely to happen with either tire unless you hit standing water- which can happen here in Washington, and I've had it happen, which is how I know!

I do hope you are being sure to run the exact same tire (other than size) all around. Never mix even slightly or you will have problems.

sure 245s will fit, as its the stock size on the S, GT3, and TT.

No. Those mentioned by you all have 20 inch rims.

The OPs rolling 19s.

Thanks for the replies, so the answer is they won't fit? I've just compared them to the size of the 245/35/20s that come as the front on the 20" wheels and they're pretty much identical in height and width.

Not worried about hydro planing too much and yes will run the same tires all around.

245-40-19 will fit perfect and work great, on your factory 19" wheels.
There is no downside.
Its a win win.

What tire do you plan to run?
RE11 would be great to get.

i was talking about the width as the OP is aware of the increase in height.

Great will go with that size then, thanks! For tires debating between the Michelin PSS or the A/S 3s. Any recommendations? Will not be tracking this car anytime soon, so looking for a good performance tire that will also work for the climate changes here in the Dallas area.

I am totally sold on the Mich PSS. I had them on my Cayman and got some as an extra set on my 991. Long lasting, grippy, good in rain, good ride quality, quiet.

if you must drive at near freezing temps the A/S is ok, however given the type of car I still prefer a Summer tire like the MPSS.
