GT3 Anyone miss a manual transmission??
Now that there are a bunch of new GT3s on the road with the super revised PDK, my question is, do any of you guys miss rowing through the gears? I am not lucky enough to have a new GT3 yet but I just got an M4 w the DCT. While it is pretty cool and very efficient I can see missing the manual box sometimes in my old 997. After you have experienced the new would anyone consider going back?

Every so often I miss rowing gears myself. But 90% of the time I'm really happy with PDK-S in this car. If you gave me a choice today, I'd stick with the new gearbox.

I am betting it will be like the phantom limb phenomenon in an amputee. Maybe we can call it phantom clutch? You'll be ghost shifting the H-box and ghost double-declutching. Actually, it'll be more like air guitar. You'll be playing your Eddie Van Halen heel-toe downshift with no third pedal every now and then. I don't have a PDK-S yet, but already miss both the buttery 6GT3 box and notchy 7GT3 box. Both clutches and gearboxes were great. Still love the G50 for a longthrow fix.

when you dont know what to do with your right hand and the woman passenger isn't on the right seat. then just get into the stick car...
nothig to miss.

This! I love the PDKS, but I will always have a manual as well. I have three manuals currently, and drive them all every week.

I completely agree and repeat, there is no other dual clutch car that feels and drives as close to a manual as this GT3.
I am currently in the process of ordering new 911 GTS, and will be getting the 7 speed manual as I really don't like the standard PDK. I wish it was offered with the PDK-S, then the manual would not even cross my mind. Mark

I think there are actually two different questions being considered in this thread:
1. Whether you miss the manual in the 991 GT3
2. Whether you miss a manual transmission because you own/drive the 991 GT3
For me, having just test drove the GT3 for about 1/2 hour, I will say there is no way given my limited abilities with a manual gearbox, heel-and-toe, etc. that I would be able to get even 50% of the true capabilities out of the GT3. Thank god for the PDK-S
As to the second question, yes, I do miss the manual tranny. I had the opportunity to drive the Cayman GTS for an afternoon and it was just a true pleasure to row through the gears. As limited as my abilities are with the right hand and left foot, it was still fun to do it.

Three Wheelin'
Easiest way to answer this is that I HATE that I love the PDK-S...never thought that I would love it as much as I do. I have in the past been just about the most stubborn person in north america about needing a manual to really be a motorsports car. I couldn't have been more wrong and the track and DD have proved it over and over to me. I am lucky enough that I can get my manual feel with several other cars I own but this car is just so fast on shifts (458 as well)...it really does feel like a race car box. When you accept that its faster then you won't miss a manual much.
