I see he left his wallet on the roof, still there when fire ignited. If the automatic fuel shut off on the pump handle didn't work properly, then I could see fuel spilling into some bad areas with the 918. But it isn't worse than a motorcycle, and we don't see those commonly igniting. Most of us would have been right there before copius amounts of fuel were spilled under the car. Needless to say.....it is bad PR for Porsche.

Gonna go out on a very long limb here, and by limited evidence basis on my end except a strong hunch that this guy did it on purpose to claim the insurance.
Here is my opinion based on the provided evidence so far:
1. Squeegee fuel back toward the engine bay.
2. Laughing with the gas attendant after the fact.
I guess he got caught up in the heat of the moment (no pun intended).

Not likely.. Kid (or girlfriend?) is in the car while he is refueling.

It appears to me that this guy is an idiot and so glad no one got injured. This is no fault of Porsche. Now - the gas station could be in trouble if the investigation finds that the fuel did not shut off. But; this guy has to have the common sense that when fuel spills you do not use a squeegee to try to put back in. Gas evaporates with in minutes

How do you get the money (credit)? Hard work or inheritance most likely. Also, if you aren't a member of the lucky sperm club, "luck" is likely played a role. Even hard work pays off more significantly when mixed with luck.
OTOH, driving ability, common sense, etc. are clearly optional.
I'm just hoping not to succumb to idiocy any time soon.

Just read that biz magazine story. Wekerle doesn't sound like he just fell off a turnip truck. So, this fire could be plain old bad luck...T

Not. Good. For Porsche and for the 918.
Stuff like this is not supposed to happen, regardless of whether an idiot (or a genius) decides to squeegee gas over his car. Who's to say the fire wouldn't have started even without his squeegee action?
