My "collection" would be a silver 450 6.9 and a tobacco brown/grey 300 6.3.

The 500E is getting everything replaced that doe not look like new, some rubber trim, new rear window ( has a little milk in it on the edge) XM radio and Valentineone detector.. When it gets back it should look and drive like a new one. Everything works, it even has the 1st gear take off reprogram (rear window lock switch activates it. OEM the 4! Speed auto takes off in 2nd lol.

Because few gears it revs high and hangs on the gas nicely.

Look forward to it. For now nice stable mate next to the 964RSA.
Wifey gets the CL550 and I will daily drive 500E.
On the 500e board: http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4878

Well see what I keep when the RS arrives.

Peter - I never owned a Mercedes but I did own he other Porsche bastard child of the 90s the Porsche/Audi RS2 which never came to USA (only 1156 made)....
yes u r right. I did forget.
that's a classic as well
back when MBZ made REAL cars.

well today's gull wing is good too, others not so much.

I hope Porsche doesn't become a name plate that USEDto make REAL cars. everyone can make fast cars, but a REAL car for REAL car guys is not as easy.

so far so good, PAG.

Great list Mooty. //

The Gullwing. What an evergreen car. Here in Los Angeles if you have a keen eye you can spot a non restored example in a small 2 car garage, mid century home with a WW2 era owner sweeping his driveway out front. He knows the car is worth more than his house and he just smiles at you as you creep by and smile.

A 1979 450 SEL 6.9. The King Kong of ALL Mercedes. My father bought one new in 78. I was 7. I still remember my mom dropping us off at the dealer and driving home at dusk with my dad. He still owned it up until a few years ago. Even though it had over 170k miles on it, the car would do "accidental" burnouts all day long.

I've been thinking about finding a nice low mile SL of the same era recently. Just a nice car to have.

I've owned a few Mercedes in between but nothing worth holding onto.

The 500 with the Porsche engine. ... My friend who is now a VP at Mercedes was at his first internship at Porsche in the early 90's and has shared great stories about the development to production of that engine for Mercedes. Those flares. Nice.

Great list guys.

Cheers.

And maybe a S or CL65 because who doesn't love a car detuned from 880lbtq to 734lbtq to save the transmission and rear brake pads?

Same engine coming now in the 2015 Sclass as I had in my '05, owned it for 3 years and still the King Kong of engines today..

They make really good beaters :-)

My beater car is this 991 GT3. My pride and joy - that sadly is mostly a garage queen - is my GMC diesel pick-up!

My beater was an RS5, tons of fun hard to replace. The new beater will be the GT3. It has a lot to live up to for a daily driver.

My daily driver beater will be my S6. AWD and winter tires and it is unstoppable. The GT3 will be my pleasure vehicle.

BMW makes the best daily driver cars IMO..
Here's my current "beater" selection. Vehicle of choice for me the last couple of months has been the GMC.

+1 I miss my E92 M3 daily driver. If I get a job closer to home, I'll ditch the Prius and pick up an M4.
