So what happens to an amateur after no track driving for 5 months?

Some helpful bits of info:
I taped the mic to the back of the passenger seat hoping for less wind noise, as I wanted to capture tire sounds as well. I think the buffeting was not as bad but you have to turn the volume up.
The 996 Cup car got ahead of everybody because he didn't want to get held back. Knowing his slicks will take longer to get to temp, I put pressure early on. Towards the end, you will see that he was following me closely.
That Z corvette has an LS1 engine that has been bored out and 5 million other things done to it, churning over 700hp at the crank. That said, you will see that his tires (Hoosiers) are giving him a lot of advantage. On comparable tires, I have little doubt the GT3 would be faster.

Glad you're ok. Amazing you were challenging that sort of competition. Let us all know how the splitter replacement goes. It'll be a pretty common repair no doubt, mostly from more mundane bumps.

Thanks. Will do. This car is unbelievable, can you imagine if it had Hoosiers? Wow!

Glad you're ok. If the 991 GT3 splitter is anything like the ones on the 997 GT3, cheap and easy to replace. Check all the other ventilation points of entry for debris as well.
Happens to all of us at some point. There's a video on the 997 board of me doing a big off at Buttonwillow followed by a massive dirt cloud.

Sam, you are one hell of a driver! The Z06 with 700hp and Hoosier should have walked you but could not. Also, I was particularly impressed that when you lost it, you did not try to recover allowing the car to go into the "weeds". Had you tried to recover (many mistakenly do) matters could have been much worst.
A couple of questions.
It's a great track with no barrier to worry about. Can lose it without sustaining too much damage. How long is it and does it require membership?
What does it cost to run a car there?
How is they allow convertible with its top down to be on the track?
Does your insurance cover damage sustained on a track and if not did you buy insurance for that day? Or are you running naked?

Nice driving right up till red mist took over!!
Looks like an early apex to me. That vette was working it as he was trail braking the **** out of car and rotating it a lot.
Fun to watch.
