Default transmission failure

After 12000 kms, suddenly on highway, transmission failure occured.
Reverse and odd gears are gone.
Stoped the car and shut down. Several oepn door close door cycle later, it seemed warning is gone.
Turned on the car and put it in D and display showed 1.
Put on gas, and it doesn't move but rev...
Several attempt and no result.
Just before I call emergency number for pick up, I gave one last full throttle.
Then warning came back on and gear 2 is on display.
Car moved and drove to dealer.

Lesson learned:
1. When warning is on, just drive to wherever pickup is easy or straight to dealer. Do not stop and hope and check if it is software glitch ever.

2. When you have to stop and restart it, if things are just like me, and probably you might have searched your way to this thread, give it a full throttle so that car knows something is wrong with transmission and switch on warning again. If it moves, don't turn the engine off ever again even if you have to wait for an 1hr long for pickup.
I did several stops and turn on and off the car and it behaved differently everytime. It even engaged 1st gear for short period and geared up 2nd with warning. Or, it never moved at all or throw warning ever before several turn on and off attempt.
It is wise to turn it on for whatever period.

Should be able to be repaired. Let us know what dealer says once you find out.

If this is truly a PDK failure, it's a plug and play part. Dealership will order a new one, and you'll soon be on your way. There have been a few of these early failures on the 991 Forum. Yes, the 991 GT3 PDK is different (hardware or software?????.... I don't know) but, stuff fails and breaks.

Doesn't make it any less stressful and disconcerting for you, but I think you'll be just fine going forward. It'll be fixed. Just a hiccup.

Things break. Just bad luck. Most likely just a software issue, mechanically unlikely. It's in the dealer already but if it happened to me. I would reset the car by unplugging the battery to let it cycle. Every time I have a fault error in any of my ferrari, bmw, RR or MB, I do it. It has saved me big bucks just by doing that, especially my ferrari.

Nothing to worry, it's under warranty.

A 918 owner reported a transmission failure. It turned out to be a cross contamination of the transmission and differential oil. The transmission had to be replace. Here is a picture of the warning.

It took ferrari to fix FF trans about 3 weeks. Lets see how long for porsche.
I am not worried but feel sorry for myself missing all this spring track days. It should have been one of my two ferraris with these kind of issues not porsche.
Sad.

Sometimes it is not the case. FF was fine until I requested futher investigation and even that ended up part exchange not transmission swap. They cleverly changed policy not to swap trans for level 2 service long time ago when dct in new ferraris are having trouble too many times. Lets see what porsche does.

Had a boxstervs do the exact same thing. Drove on for 300 k with only even gears and no reverse. Got safe recycled it and drove for another 40 ke under fault warning. Transmission packed it in no gears nothing had to be towed 700 km to the dealer for repair. They never disclosed if the PDK had packed it in

Agree with others ... should be a warranty item. I have some experience in dealing with PDK issues and I'd say PAG has been very good. In your favor is the age (or rather the newness) and that it is PDK-S. 99.9% sure broken PDK-S will be shipped back to Germany for study. Your only downside is there is a PAG required procedure your dealer must go through to get warranty replacement and this procedure may take a little time. The other thing is availability of replacement PDK-S in your location. One may need to be shipped from Germany. Usually it's not a problem, just some extra time to wait.

I'm sure there is a lot of interest in how this plays out so please keep us informed. Good luck.
