What is best is very individual and you need to sit in them and preferably drive in them to really decide. I've had both and prefer the 918 seats (althought the CGT seats in my 2010 are still my fav).

Wrt weight I do not think there's a huge difference - pick the seats that works for you.

Every body shape is different, height and width. If you have the opportunity prior to putting you're final order in, I would try them both. Here in NA we only get the fixed back lwb's. I surprisingly, at 5'6" 140lbs love them. Good luck.

I have spent 14 hours in my GT4 LWBs driving from Napa to Seattle and was amazed at how comfortable they are. I hope these are the same as they fit me so well!

I wonder how Porsche is going to handle PTS and the required stripe on the LWB seats. Many PTS colors would clash with either the grey or GR stripe on the seat.

Oh, that's easy. Deny PTS to anyone that has an issue with the color of the stripes!

I am struggling with choosing seats as well. This is going to be my first GT3 order. i currently have a Carrera S with 14 way seats and a Cayenne GTS with 18 way seats. I will daily drive the GT3 but very keen on getting bucket seats, i think it suits the car better. Everyone is telling me to get the 18way seats with more comfort and easy access to seats but i am not convinced. So full buckets (hight adjustable) or Sport bucket with folding back? Roll cage or no roll cage???? I thought ordering the carrera was hard but this is worse!

Fwiw, I have never been a fan of LWB. However, the other day I sat in a RS with LWB and once in they are very comfortable. My next concern was how easy are they to get in and out of? I spend about 10 minutes doing just that. Each time I did it the easier it became.

I finally decided to get them. They look perfect for the car.

To answer your first general 'why' question:

- Fully supportive track ready seat that you can use with a 6 point harness and HANS

- Porsche OEM

- DOT compliant race seat with thorax airbags. Drive on the street with no compromise to safety and fully insurable.

If you track its an easy decision. All other seats compromise track performance or street safety (not crash tested, airbag delete etc)

FWIW - I'm not sure Porsche calls the US full buckets "light weight". I'm fairly sure they are marginally heavier than the mechanical 2-way option in a GT4 but probably lighter than an 18-way with all it's 18-way gears.
