Default Mobile Phone Preparation: You need it

Maybe I'm the only one who didn't know this, but in case I'm not, the $0 Mobile Phone Preparation option #619 under Audio and Communications in the configurator is required if you want your mobile phone to work with the car. This is apparently true even though a "Bluetooth with hands free mobile phone connection" is listed as standard equipment for the GT3.

I got to wondering about this option and called my sales rep who e-mailed his PCNA ordering contact. His contact responded that it was in fact necessary. Whatever. A word to the wise.....

Thank you for posting this, Mike, because I thought it was for the Sim card slot so one uses the car as a phone and didn't order it. Now changed.

They certainly kept that a closely guarded secret.
Once again, the power of Rennlist prevails! : )
Thanks!

Whew. I checked that box anyway--sounded like there was a chance it was necessary and it was a $0 option...

Thanks, @Mike in CA!

What's funny is that on my dealer printout...it doesn't mention the $0 option for the PDK (even though it does on the configurator)...PDK and the standard Titanium Finish wheels don't show up on my build at all...

It's the same on my dealer retail build sheet so if it's wrong then at least we share the same problem.

To all, glad to be of help. I figured that option had to do with an internal SIM card too, but it kept gnawing at me that it was separate from the telephone module option. As Carrera GT suggests, there are many secrets in the configurator.......

@Mike in CA -- Either our cars will have PDK and the standard wheels...or no transmission or wheels at all.

And the retrofit cost will be 2x the regular cost.

Is it the configurator or Porsche that is making a mockery of the ordering system? Why is it so difficult to option a car?

I've read that the Mobile Phone Preparation option eliminates the SIM card slot and related electronics.

Those w/o PDK or wheels on your build order will get the 6 speed manual transmission and bbs 3 piece cup car wheels.

"In the USA all 991s get Bluetooth. It is part of the PCM. The mobile phone prep option actually puts a phone module in the car and has an external antenna. You put the SIM card in the slot in the dash. Bluetooth is not used in this case."

Confusion reigns. Some say depends on which region one resides in as to what Mobile Phone Preparations means. When I order my car I will tell my salesperson what I want and not necessarily use the configurator as a guide. Hopefully, by early next year they will have this matter sorted out.
