Default First Porsche - 2011 Cayman

I purchased a red 2011 Cayman about 4 days ago from a local Audi dealership. It's in great condition and has about 17k mi on it. I have always dreamed of owning a Porsche and would one day like to own a 911. Obviously there are cars out there that are better than the Cayman, but this is the best car I have ever driven. I feel extremely blessed. I used a lot of resources on this forum leading up to my purchase, so thank you and I'm looking forward to contributing to the community!

Welcome to the club and congratulation for the purchase!
Have fun with your Cayman, the longer you will drive her, the more you will like her and believe me, when one day you will test drive a 911, you may not find it better. Obviously the 911 it's a great car and due to her long history of success in competitions is a more glamorous toy than the Cayman / Boxster, but once you will get used to the mid engine mount, it will be difficult giving up such a perfect balance :-)

Congratulations, she looks amazing. Having owned both, I agree with what Marco says above - the 911 has a certain appeal but the mid-engine layout makes the Cayman a better sports car. Have fun!

I've owned many P-cars including 987 Cayman S. The Cayman ranks very high on my list of most enjoyable. Not the fastest, but certainly the easiest to drive and get maximum pleasure out of. It's a true sports car but isn't as painful a driving experience as the GT4 or GT3s. I loved mine and hope you use it as a springboard to a long term relationship with Porsche.

When you say the 987 isn't as painful to drive as the gt4/gt3s, do you mean that in terms of suspension? Or maintenance? Would love a GT4

Congratulations. You have what most regard as the best of the first generation Caymans (987.2) in a very classic color combo (red/black).
And because 987.2s were produced in relatively small numbers yours is fairly rare as well.
I predict over time these will hold their value, percentage-wise, better than their big brother 997s and their younger brothers (981s and 991s).
In the meantime, enjoy it!

I was referring to the stiffness of the suspension. I've owned 996GT3, 997GT3, 987 Cayman S and GT4 (amongst others). The Cayman S is an extremely "liveable" car. I DD'd it and never thought twice about it. The GT cars are much less comfortable. It comes down to your tolerance for the bumps, creaks, low spoiler, etc.

Congrats. Looks great.

I bought my first Porsche this summer, so I know the feeling. And feel fortunate, too.

Hi there
Congratulations on a nice looking Cayman.
I have owned a good amount of Porsches and now find myself with
a Cayman GTS and a Spyder.
I can honestly tell you that I do not have 911 envy.
The Cayman is a very nice platform at a reasonable price.
I rationalize it this way. I have two great Porsches for the price of
a well equipped 911.
Enjoy!
