this may not be it, but the mass air flow meter is the box connected to air filter box. It has a swing door in it that operates a rheostat, potentiometer with copper arms that sweeps on carbon filmed surface. Sometimes after many miles the carbon has been worn away and so the signal to the fuel injection system is lost. I had to take mine apart and adjust the arms to swing at new radii so clean voltages would be sent.

best to take Steve Weiner's advice first then go through some parts that may go over time.
I have spare Air Flow Meter, Idle Air Control Valve, coils, and probably local to you.
We live in Toronto so maybe the gas is old and crappy from last fall but shouldn't strand you.
I have spare knock sensors but again... should leave you on side of the road (or stuck at work)
I found a good place to check your computer in Brampton. Digicontrols.
Took my 944, 944 turbo and 964 computers to them and they are able to diagnose, check for issues (cold solder joints etc) and are not expensive.
Get a price first of course.
