Default speedster 3rd brake light?

Anybody here know what the deal is with the 3rd tail light on speedster?

Was there a difference between north amercian cars and ROW?

I have seen speedsters with them, without them and some with basket handles?

ROW cars did not have the 3rd brake light while the US ones had the "ET" style 3rd brake light. The basket handle is a 993 style 3rd brake light and although OEM, it is not the correct one.

You can remove it fairly easily. It will leave 3 holes in your decklid and there is a kit you can get to cover the holes (3 stainless plugs). Not the most elegant solution but totally reversible which is a consideration given the Speedster values.

But on my 993 I replaced the decklid to remove the basket handle and kept the original.

I'm not sure if a kit is available for the 993 but I would check into David's link to get color matched plugs given the location of the holes.
For the 964 it is a kit like this one, not sure who makes it since the previous owner did the mod but it should not be too hard to find.
