The problem is not the car... it's your relationship. Something isn't completely to her satisfaction.
Focus on that... financial is the key reason for marital issues... so just like someone else posted his solution, you need to find a way that works for both of you.
I think everybody learns the hard way. Don't get defensive, communicate with her to clear up you want her to be happy, work towards that, make her understand your happiness depends on the 911. You both need to come out of this being happy... fighting isn't the answer.
Hope you get it figured out... in any case, I'm sure an attitude change is required on both sides.
We learned the hard way and are better than ever. Hey, she now chose a Cayenne as her own car... and I was perfectly happy about paying for it. A year ago I wouldn't have been able to say this.
Figure out how to get there. Best of luck with it.

Relationships are tough man, everyone is always trying to change each other. Mine made me get rid of my M Roadster. It worked out in the end: I bought a 997s to replace it.
I still miss the BMW sometimes, but I shouldn't complain. Is there some reason you feel compelled to sell the car at her request?
Have you tried the ol'
"Have you seen what the 1974 Porsche 911's are going for these days, Honey?" approach?
I mean, it may not be true but it's certainly possible that your 964 could be worth well over 6 figures in a few years! ( 😉 )
Especially if Singer starts coming up short on 964 donor cars...
Let us know what happens, and good luck.

This sounds like an agony aunt column.
From the outset any girl I've dated has known about my car obsession. If she moans later down the line, she's only got her self to blame.
Under unavoidable financial strain, I would of course sell.

I'm sorry, but even the Pope himself would be the first to grant you a divorce for such sacrilege.
Just get her a mustang, then. They're a dime a dozen and you won't have to resent her for the rest of your life. Don't get rid of the Porsche!
Who needs Dr. Phil when you've got Rennlisters to come to your aid, right?

Here I was expecting a real issue, like lost job, health bills, close family member in dire need, but a request to sell your 964 for a Mustang is friggen insane!

Okay, I tried to take the stance that it always takes two to tango, and that your wife might have a good reason, but, for a MUSTANG!

August said it right on man..Just buy her a beater Mustang, and still have money leftover to get her tramp stamp removed. Rennlsiters are the best.

I think if you removed that wing and put the OEM decklid back also throw some 17" cup I wheels and lowered the car , she will not want a mustang any longer
