Default Elephant Racing Suspension - Should I?

Hi guys,

After gutting my interior (what a difference that makes...), it's time to tackle the suspension.

My car is still street legal and I use it to go to and from the track.
I was looking at different suspension options and Elephant Racing came to me highly recommended.

First of all, their website is really cool and user friendly.
I like a lot the suspension builder. Here: http://www.elephantracing.com/suspen...packages.htm#a

I was wondering if anyone bought their full kit?
Does anyone have experience with their components?

I'm planning a full suspension overhaul and I'm open to suggestion.

Finally, i spoke to Chuck Moreland. Super nice and available...

Thanks for your input!
John

I recently replaced my front control arm bushings with the ER. I thought the extra $$ worth it as the original lasted 20 years and wanted the same quality again when replacing. If I replaced with a cheaper bush and needed to replace within a few years any money saved initially would be given back.

Re comparison and this probably goes for most feedback if being compared against original (20 year old) suspension/bushes against new ones is not accurate as it is not comparing like with like (new against new).

Can you be more granular w/ the specific components you are considering?

Used their components on my 88 Carrera coupe track car. Very happy with everything so far.

I changed to H&R green and Bilstein struts and shocks 2 years ago but the car still didn't handle properly. Last winter I removed everything and sent the trailing arms, spring plates and control arms to ERP for RS front bushings and the rubber trailing arm and spring plate bushings. http://www.elephantracing.com/suspen...r-bushings.htm
ERP did a fantastic job, they removed all the old worn out stuff, bead blasted and clear coated the parts then installed the new bushings.
Using the struts, shocks and springs I already had, I then installed new (OE) strut and shock tops, sway bar mount bushings, drop links, rack mounts, 4 new wheel bearings (ERP installed the rears for me while the the trailing arms were there).
Along with that project I refreshed the braking system with 993 calipers front and rear, 993 master cylinder and vacuum booster, removed the bias valve, 968 M003 drilled front rotors, 964RS drilled rear rotors, 993 OE pads front & rear. There were some other parts needed, for example the 993 bearing bracket for mounting the brake booster, a 993 bracket for mounting the 993 master cylinder, 2 master cylinder to ABS system brake lines had to be sourced and specially bent as the fittings on the 993 master cylinder are different than the 964 stuff. Finally, RS+~1-2mm ride height, corner balance and alignment.
Long story short...the changes transformed the car. Much more planted, suspension really works well.
If I were to do it again I would use the ERP bushings but would probably go with a coil over package recommended by some Rennlisters.
I chose the ride height for avoiding bumpsteer problems. Based on information found on Rennlist forums it appears that you need to update the front carriers and tie rods to 964RS or 993 parts for lower ride height without bumpsteer. Maybe that would be a good idea for a dedicated track car.
Finally, thanks to fellow Rennlisters for all the information and help. Special thanks go to Bill Verberg for all his help on the braking system.

^I just want to clarify that ERP (Eisenlohr Racing Products) and Elephant Racing are two different part suppliers.

I have used 2 iterations of their front A-arm bushes
V1 Elephant Sport hardness rubber bushes for both legs w/ oe RS rear arms this is an outstanding street/track combo, the 964 rear is different from the 993 but if Elephants rear bushes perform as well as the fronts you will be very happy.

V2 Elephant sealed mon-***** on both legs of the front A-arm, w/ RSR rear A-arm and Rennline and Tarett on the rest of the rear arms. Again an outstanding setup for a mostly track car

Other pieces to the puzzle are RS wheel carriers and tie rods(GT2 inners), RS sways

get the car low and stiff w/ good digressive shocks

I have done a full unibal mod during the last winter and have euro-RS springs and cup-dampers and RS sways. Also RS-Topmounts, and rear trailing arm bushing, springplate and and the bushing in the front is unibal. It is not to harsh for street driving. It is perfect! :-)
