Starter Motor...again
I have just had my starter motor pack up less than 9 months after having it changed. Fingers crossed its still under warranty.
When it was done 9 months or so ago I also had issues and the first one only lasted 2 weeks. I was told it was probo just a batch thing. So then had a second one fitted which has now since given up the ghost. How long do they usually last?
Its a Bosch parts so seems very strange. Interested to know thoughts and experiences? What else could be going on? The engine did start very cleanly when I jumped it.

I did the rebuild on my starter because it was hanging up -
AND ( most important part) the local Porsche rep told me not to buy a new starter as they were made in China. Have the old one rebuilt it will be better than what you buy new.
I can not verify that this is true, or not -
But, I rebuilt , clean the planetary gears and repacked with fresh grease and my starter has worked like a champ ever since - not one hang or miss spin.

If you are not familiar with electrical motors I would recommend taking it to a rebuild shop. You can take it apart and clean and re-grease the moving parts, but if you are not electrically oriented then take to a shop. You would probably have difficulty in obtain parts anyway. I would NOT take it to an automotive repair shop as they will just send it out. Do a phone book ( do they still exist ) search or yellow/white page web search for a alternator/electrical motor repair rebuild shop in your town. Our go ask your friendly repair shop who they send alternators or starters to for rebuild. Call and talk to the folks - Most standard electrical parts will work in the starter and a good tech will be able to repair without any issues. Figure $100 to 4150 depending on issues.

I had mine replaced last year, and my tech did not recommend replacing it with another 964 stater. I tried to look at the invoice, but it doesn't say the model number, but I remember he telling me he ordered one from a Turbo? What (if any) later model starter fit? Ignore me if my comments are totally wrong.

Never had a starter issue even the one on my C4 worked perfectly after sitting for 10 years.
BTW I have 2 starters from C2/C4's needing a new home if anyone is interested.
