Speedo calibration - is it possible?
Hi all,
I have only had my 964 for a short time, but suspected that the speedo is out since day one. Sitting in a 50km zone, 'following' the traffic - my speedo showed 55 - no big deal really, but a tad annoying. I then downloaded a couple of iphone speedo apps and set them going on my dash. They all work the same (via satellite) and they too show about 5 to 6 kms out at low speed. When i go out on the highway (100km speed limit) - it shows 92 on the app. I then take my car up to 108km to get to the proper 100km.
Whilst I realise that most speedos are out and usually err on the slow side (conspiracy from the factory perhaps...) - does anyone know of a way to re-calibrate or adjust the speedo please?

I just calibrated my Speedo by driving next to a friend who had his cruise control set on exactly 70, and I pulled up next to him, mine read 74ish.
I pulled over, and dragged the Speedo under the 0mph Mark which makes it stay there and subsequently can only go to about the 180 mark, whereas if I pushed it past the 180 mark it would say I'm going about 5mph at a stand still.
I had my Speedo gauge glass off because I was fixing something on my odometer.. all fixed and perfect now if you have any questions feel free to ask

Ok, have read a few ideas, but nothing that is going to solve the issue (as i need to keep cruise control working, spoiler control etc). Short of pulling the speedo out and sending it to the guys in Florida for re-calibration, does anyone else have a fix for this? I had a look on the 944 forum and a guy has made a board that intercepts the signal and recalibrates on the fly, but nothing for the 964.

because I used the search, I got to this thread.
my speedo is way off, about 10% higher (would that mean my mileage is actually 10% less?? or they are counted differently). I have checked the speed dozens of times with my GPS but haven't checked the odometer.
If I move the needle lower to compensate, would that also slow down the odometer to the actual distance traveled?

Three Wheelin'
No, moving the needle on the shaft has no effect on the basic calibration of the speedo/odometer. What will change it is gear and wheel+tire diameter changes. All you are doing is changing where the needle points for the same amount of rotation of the speedo drive.

given this seems to be a problem that has happened to quite a few people - there must be some sort of fix for it? My car has standard wheels/tire sizes, but is out up to 10kmh... it is very annoying.
