Default Rear Relay/Fuse Box - Power Lead?

Messing around rebuilding the rear blower fan and noticed this in the engine bay relay/fuse box. A spare power lead to something, but not sure what. There are no cut-outs in the box or the cover for this to trail to which makes it more puzzling. Any ideas?

That looks like the plug for the rear blower. Is your rear blower hooked up?

I agree with the rear blower plug. But it looks like its run inside the skin for the relay/fuse box. Also is there anything on the car that isnt working that could have had straight power run to it. Rear window defog ?? I do see the bottom fuse missing is why I ask.

It's the same connection type as the blower but I have the blower connected in the background top right in the image. Maybe I should swap these over(?) to test. Right now the blower doesn't seem to be working anyway but put this down to the CCU that I know is is faulty and needs repairing.

Indeed, which I thought unusual as if it was used the cover wouldn't seat correctly. Although I have noticed in the image a hole in the box bottom corner.

No other 'spare' power connectors in the engine bay left wanting that I can see. Bottom fuse (7.5A) would normally be for the A/C compressor that I don't have.

Think I'll run the tester over the power leads and see what's live and when and check for more images or mention of this in Streather's manual...

If the rear blower does not work then neither will the CCU, just make sure the CCU temp is set higher somewhere mid scale before testing....Pretty easy to check for voltage / if the blower is operational and worth trying, maybe the CCU is good after all.

Wiil do, thanks. Out of interest, if I remove the CCU from the car can I still drive around ok? I ask as I know that the oil cooler fan and its ballast resister rely on some information shared with the CCU.

You should be ok to drive, keeping an eye on the oil temperature, you are unlikely to reach temps needing the oil cooler fan with the temp in the UK right now.
Get the rear blower sorted first then have someone with a hammer check out the CCU/Servos is it is still acting up. Chances are when the blower works so will the CCU. Good luck!

Hello,
like to bring this up again.
On my 88 Carrera with 993 3.6 conversion I found the same connector,
but a hughe capacitor was connected.
The conversion was done from the po, so I have no idea for what this could be....
As I have a spare 993 wiring loom, I followed the wires.
Not surprising, the red one is battery +, not switched,
the brown one is ground, not switched.

What could be te reason to have a capacitor between B+ and ground?

Would this have been a recall item on pre-Nov '90 models?

If you had complained about this problem to your dealer and the car was still under warranty, there was a chance they would've fixed it for free. But it definitely was not a recall item.
