Default Ordering for the OBD1 Interface is now open!

Thank you, thank you, for your patience.... I feel we're now ready enough to take orders... I have built 30 of the 40 kits, and I should be able to finish the rest tomorrow... and beginning to ship units this week. They take a little bit of work on each one, so it was slow going for me at first.

SO... if you want to get in on the first round of 40 OBD1 kits, please go to
http://www.obd1interface.com and check out the kit. Don't wait to order one, as demand indicates that the first round will go very quickly.

I have sent PMs to everyone I could find that had indicated interest...

Crystal Cranks,John Boggiano,SAM DACOSTA,vbaron,swftiii,jperret,Coleman,breale01,forest,Dsqr964;ard;kylej ohnston1;jtucker;crg53;Jon A.;John H;mdowell;espenl;dleefsu;doruiacovescu;Ken D;airfan;MitchB;Vorsicht;964duo;kylejohnston1;fiskarflugen;Phil Coomber;hamah;Jonnygo1

We will make more as soon as we can. (shouldn't be long as we have all the vendors and processes in place)...

Sign up to be on the waiting list for the next round, if you don't get one this time. You will be directed to a form if we're out of stock.

Thanks!

Just got mine up and running, having received it a while back.

What a fantastic thing to have!

Thanks.

Thank You John... I hope it works out well for you.

Please do feel free to add to the database of codes and solutions on our site. I hope to eventually build a database of codes, and narratives of troubleshooting and ultimate fixes.

Just received the kit today, had it up an running quickly.
(My wife said I ran down to the garage like a kid with illegal fireworks.)
Hooked it up with car not running but key in 'on' position.

Motronic - No Faults
ABS Traction - No Faults
SRS Air Bad - No Faults
Climate Control
- 13 Right Mixing Chamber temperature sensor.
- 45 Inside Sensor Blower Mower

Indication on the board are to clear these, drive around, run the servo/actuator test and check again.
Can't wait to hook it up with the engine running and see the real time stats.
Will keep you posted.

Thanks for your hard work on this.
It should be called "The Porsche Whisperer"

i think those 2 errors are very common. I always get them. I remember something about when you run the test makes a difference if you get it or not. I have my own unit i built a few years ago and use the same software. Just do a reset (clear codes) and they will go away

I just ordered a kit but no huge rush to get it - once received it will probably create more work for me so thrilled to receive and have it, scared what it will tell! Actually I'm traveling for a week so can't touch it for at least a couple weeks so just whenever you get around to sending it. Now my legal disclaimer, 'within reason'

While I'm here, I noticed some people on this thread saying they had problems getting the software to run with Vista. I had this also, but in the end I solved it by setting everything back to COM1 and reasigning COM1 to the relevant port on my laptop via Device Manager. By default, the COM port assigned to the Serial-USB adapter was 6, but even when all relevant files and values were set up correctly, launching the application still resulted in a failed COM port opening because it insisted on still using COM1.

Also, I did a very brief tidy up of the files for the trouble codes and test sequnces. If anyone would like it, it's HERE.

I realised that the wording in the pop-up window/dialog box during testing is a bit ambiguous: the motronic tests interpreted it one way, while the climate-control tests interpreted it the other way - as to which test is actually in progress and which starts when you press 'okay'.

Finally, I think I've determined that trouble code 16 in climate-control refers to a faulty/shorted external temp sensor, while test number 20 activates the A/C compressor clutch, but I haven't actually tested either of these - having just updated my own print-out of the codes, I thought I'd quickly upload it for anyone who might be scratching their head.

Thanks! Maybe we'll add that as a product tagline... I hope it keeps your car healthy.... how do you keep such a clean garage? You aren't trying hard enough to make a mess...

I wanted to redo my garage before I got the car. whoops. Garage was a WIP with fresh floor paint when the 964 arrived. Walls are painted now and it will look nice for one week, or the first fluid change, whichever comes first.

"
Cleared both codes, but 45 came back. Found this tidbit:
"...
temperature decrease symptom can also be caused by a inert CCU fan due to electric failure or wear. This will stop the air flow through the sensor, and the normal heating inside the dash/CCU unit will be detected as air temperature increase causing the CCU to gradually stop the hot air flow to compensate for this. A defective CCU fan will be flagged as Truble Code 45 (Inside sensor blower motor) when reading the OBD interface...."

here:
http://privat.bluezone.no/toreb2000/ccurepair.html
great climate control system write-up.

Steps to replace the bad fan:
https://rennlist.com/forums/964-1989...y-ccu-fan.html

So I followed the steps above to pull out the CCU.
I took the fan apart, cleaned the blades and put the tiniest bit of motor oil on the spindle. I also blew through the air tube to clean out the cobwebs, (literally) It is very important to protect your lower dash with a towel or something. I re-attached the cables, and slid it back in. Checked the codes and 45 WAS GONE. Then when I switched off the ignition, I heard the fan for the first time. It stayed running for 20 minutes or so. Never missed the fan noise because I never knew it was suppose to be there.
Like a lawyer, the kit tells me about problems I don't even know I have.

John & Laker,

Thanks for the links and diagnostic tips. I think I have those common codes in my CCU as well.
