Someone really messed up the driver's side jack point. At first I thought it was just irritating and I didn't trust it, but I'm trying to remove the rear suspension as a whole and it's blocking the nut for the torsion tube chassis mount.
What is my option for fixing this? I thought it was welded in, but there's a bolt going through the middle of it for something? Will I just have to try to pry it back enough to get a wrench in? I haven't messed with it yet.
wow, there must have been some kind of off-road excursion to do that (curb?)
no idea what the bolt there is for.
it's frankly hosed at this point so if it were my car i'd either cut the section out that is in the way of the suspension bolt (sawzall?) or more likely use judicious application of the 5-lb wrench with the wooden handle (aka BFH)
Yeah, everything around it looks OK. I'm not sure how they accomplished that. I was guessing a lifting incident.
It's been pretty solid, so I put a jack stand under it (though I leave the jack on that side and put 2 other stands under the back just in case). If I cut it or make it unusable, where can I put a stand without the torsion setup in there?
Those are not jacking points but are used in the assembly of the body to the drive train. It was never intended to be a jack point, neither in the rear or the one in front. The only jack point that is re-enforced is the one in the middle of the door.
Well it bent back in place pretty much and I got the suspension out.
To avoid another thread hopefully, how do my torque tube bearings sound? It spins easily, but makes that sound. Do they sound alright or can you even tell from that? I only drove the car for ~10 mins testing it before tearing it down, so I didn't notice any vibration or noises, but it's the only thing left under the car so it would be easier to rebuild now. '88 951 117k miles
My car didn't buckle. And that torque tube is in some seriously bad shape. Look up blacksear&d. Also with the turbo's I have seen them have extensions on those locations. Just to clear the lower side skirt on he 951. Not one of my 944's have the extensions.

Not according to Porsche. My owners manual specifically states three locations, front frame rail, center point, and this point as the only allowable points to lift the vehicle with a floor jack or lift.
