Default Wheel storage solution for garage?

I recently picked up another set of track wheels and another set of street wheels. With all these wheels laying around in the garage, I'm starting to run out of room.

Does someone make a wall mount rack for wheels? I seem to remember seeing one somewhere, but can't remember where now. What's everyone else using or doing? I'm open to ideas. Pictures would be great.

Tifo comes to mind as someone that has a ton of wheels.

I built this shelf out of some 2x4's. Holds 3 extra sets of wheels easy and fits perfectly in the corner of the garage. Sticks out no further than the toolbox. Simple to make really

I bought some 2X4's and attached them vertically to the upright wall studs with screws. Then purchased some 1" (by 16" long) galvanized plumbing pipe with attachement bases and end caps, and some pipe insulation. I then attached the pipes to the upright 2x4's, 3 pipes per board. So, looking at them from the side down along the wall, they look like this:

Then I put some pipe insulation over the pipes (to protect the inside of the rim), and hung the wheels on them. I have six uprights, 3 wheels per upright, that hold a total of 18 wheels. Sorry I don't have a photo handy, hope that makes sense........

That looks good Mike. Something like that could work. I would need to do some organizing first.

That makes sense, but what sort of attachment bases are you talking about? Do you still have 18 wheels? I knew you had a lot, but my goodness that's a lot.

They look like this:

I don't have 18 wheels anymore. I sold off a set, down to 14 or so now I think.

I like the fact that the soft tires, won't be supporting any weight while being stored. Won't cause any odd spots.

That's why I did it, so I wouldn't flat spot the tires and could leave them at the normal inflation.

Glad I could help!

Default Large wheeled racks

Nearly everything in my garage is on wheels.
I have found countless uses for the heavy duty wire racks that Sam's Club sells....including wheel and tire storage. You can build them into whatever configuration you need, and with a listed capacity of 600 pounds per shelf (I don't think I would test that though ;^) will hold a lot of stuff. They cost about $75 each, and take maybe 45 minutes to build.

Brian
(if you're really cheap, the small wooden wheeled plant stands HD sells will make a set of wheels easily movable for under $10 each)
