Did '78-79 US cars come with first aid kits?
I have a question that's been bugging me for a while. German regulations required that cars have a first aid kit, so my Euro cars have them in the passenger footwell behind the rightmost carpet. None of my '78-79 US cars have such a kit, and the only car that I've seen that had it is Drooman's perfect '78 (Even Ed's Bluemaxx does not have one, and his car seems to have EVERYTHING that came with it). Droo is not sure its original to his car, but it is different from the Euro kit as the language is in English.
Can anyone verify that US cars were delivered with these first aid kits? And if so, did Porsche deliver US cars with the english version? (similar to how US cars came with the Canadian Webster tire inflator and ROW with a German made unit made by Bayr. DruckgussWerk (BDW).
Just trying to figure out if I need to find three or four of these darned things..

Good question. I dont have a definitive answer except to say that my 79 has it and the warning triangles as well. My kit is in German. My car is a US model.
Are they supposed to be stowed up front? Never considered that
I wouldn't be suprised if many of them wound up in the dealers hands during initial prep.

Alex, mine never had that kit. Since it had other original items, like the radio; pump in original card board box, the bulb kit, metal gas cap, etc, I am inclined to believe that my car did not come with the first aid kit.

I'm thinking that for the most part it was uncommon (for US 928s to be fitted with a first aid kit),
unless you picked your car up at the factory, where they would've supplied it with the European or 'tourist' option.
Part of me wonders why are you asking? I mean, if you want your 928 to have a first aid kit, go buy one on the bay. Not hard to find. Seems like you're a bit into the minutiae.

Isn't this all about the minutiae?
Am embarrassed to admit that the point about the first aid kit fitting into the rear console compartment came as an 'aha' moment- never occurred to me that perhaps that's where it's supposed to live. The very correct-looking first aid kit that Greg mentioned above in no way fits behind the cardboard footwell panel in a '78, not even close.

^^^ I live in the minutiae, and the thought didn't cross my mind. So at some I have to wonder, so I did.
If it's the DIN standard, which it is... it should fit. We're not talkin' bout the OJ's glove here.

Perhaps Minerva has tiny hands or something. Next time I'm at William's I'll get a shot of it not fitting in the footwell. In the meantime, here's a shot of the contents list, should anyone want to replicate said contents.
Is there anything in Germany that doesn't conform to DIN standards?

Never thought that may be where it belonged

This is about the funniest thing a guy trying to make every single detail of a pre-production car correct could have possibly written.....

No doubt, what an a$$ I am. Even I have my limits.
Rob, I missed that you're trying to fit that in the rear console. It won't.
I thought you were trying to fit it where it's supposed to be, right pax footwell right-side flap (where the the brain-boxes reside in later 928s).
And since the early 928 has no brains, it fits perfectly.

In the back of mind, I'm also wondering if Porsche would have left an empty 'space' behind the carpet in the US cars.

As an aside, there's a manual that's included with the 'tourist delivery' option. Gives info on how to drive in Europe and includes regional service options in case of an emergency. It's a really neat booklet. I have one floating around somewhere.
PS. My experience is that finding the 'kit' for an early 928 is just the tip of the iceberg when trying to get them original as possible. There are so many other things that get removed, replaced, manipulated, etc. Multiply that by the number of 928s that you own, Alex, and all I can say is wow, that's alot of original pieces-parts needed.
