Does a '87 auto have an internal fuel pump?
This has been bugging me for a while. How do I tell whether my car has an internal fuel pump, or not. Thanks

Drop the main fuel pump cover and take a look where the pipe enters the fuel tank. If you have an internal fuel pump you should be able see the power cable that drives it- it is looped off the power supply to the main pump.

It will be easy to see if you have wires going to an intank fuel pump

The 2 extra wires will be there under the fuel pump cover. The 2 extra wires are part of the harness whether a pump was installed or not. It'll just be a question of whether those wires are hooked up to anything or not. If they are hooked up to the terminals on the internal pump as Mrmerlin posted above^^^^^^, you have an internal pump. If they are not hooked to anything (and generally taped up is how I've seen them), then there is not an internal pump but only a strainer.

I don’t believe that the in-tank fuel pump was available in the ‘87 model year. Not sure when it was introduced, perhaps ‘89.
