928 S4 Cooling flaps cycling
While getting my 1988 928 S4 ready for spring, it developed an interesting problem. After I reinstalled the battery and started up the car, I heard a ticking noise from the interior? then I realised the cooling flaps were cycling open and closed - this was happening even when the ignition key was turned off. The clicking noise was coming from the kick panel and was the relay. I replaced it with a brand new Bosch relay (position XVIII) but the clicking and cycling flaps continued - I swapped in a 3rd relay with no change. Before I start digging into wiring diagrams, is there a sensor that I should check or control unit that controls the cooling flaps?
Thanks in advance.

pull the fuse for the flaps,
and then screw the motor **** so they are open,
and leave it alone.

The final stage took a dump. Do what Stan said.

Unless you live somewhere very very cold - the cooling flaps are more trouble than they are worth.
Even Porsche appears to agree - since they deleted the flap system eventually.

Keep in mind that the flaps were more about drag reduction than cooling.
They close when the car isn't hot to reduce drag through the radiator. It gave the car something like 5mph more top speed.
