Going back to Cali - Carmel that is! Aug 16th Concours

Isn't the spirit of it to show well kept, clean 928's that represent the mark? Are we there to win or to enhance 928's? Last year it was the first showing of 928's and what I overheard was that the judges and the spectators were thrilled to see them. I think there were 7 cars last year, nice goal to have 10 this year.
Most important, it's a great time. Finding a place to stay is challenge.

It was a wonderful show with great cars and wonderful people. Well worth the trip and to show your 928.
Four of us made the trip from TX and had a blast from start to finish. In retrospect we wish we had stayed longer.
The show is a little different to other concours shows as they have there own rules which they do not share in "detail" prior to or after the occasion. Makes it difficult for you to know what is expected. This drove Andy (he prepped my car) nuts as he is OCD.
It would also have been very useful to be able to understand what points were deducted and why for your individual entry as a learning process for future events. Again they do not divulge that information unless you make an individual request after the show which is a shame. They also reserve the right to not divulge the information if they do not want to.
From my point of view it was an expensive trip (TX to CA and back towing a 928) so I will not repeat again for a couple of years but would definitely go again in the future.
Driving on the peninsular at the time of the show is mind boggling. You pull up at a set of lights and you are immediately surrounded by a dozen million dollar cars left, right and in front. After a while you get used to it and get excited when you see an unusual car like a Ford Focus!!!

I will be here all week... I am not entering the 928, but a couple of my other cars are in other shows during car week.. I look forward to attending the Carmel event again this year, and meeting fellow 928'ers.
Jim & Sue,
Let me know if you want to park the rig, and use the guest room....
Best Regards,

We just received a phone call from the organizers for the Carmel Concours. It turns out all but one of the 928's who applied to enter this year were the same cars from last year. Apparently they do not present the same cars year after year!
So, bottom line, no 928 class this year. They may accept the one new entry, but it would be in a combined class.
We're disappointed, but maybe another time. Richard, thanks for your offers!

That is really strange as they never mentioned that last year - just said come on back. As I said strange set up with there own rules - sounds like the Republican party 8>).

The Concorso Italiano has expanded their show to include an "exotics" class, and may accept 928's. You can find the info online.
I will be showing two cars there this year.

this news is so disappointing. Minerva #107 was accepted and I was looking forward to enjoying the rest of the 928 entrants as we did last year. I wonder if we are still invited at this point, though I haven't heard differently.
I am stunned at this news.

William,
I'm sure you are in. When they called to let us know we were not accepted, they did say that one 928 that had not shown last year was. Said it would be in a "mixed" class.
Heck, if you guys will be there, we think we still need to come and cheer you on. Minerva will be a standout entrant!
We could actually drive the GT to Carmel instead of towing the GTS. Way more fun.

Sue, I am hoping you and Jim will be there. It is just a little hollow unless we get some real enthusiasts there. If you bring the GT, no way you get away without giving me a ride!
Richard, 40 year anniversary of the Porsche transaxle cars, I sure hope that if we can't be lined up with other stunning 928s like last year, that we at least get some recognition and compete with other transaxle cars. Whatever the organizers decide, Rob and I hope to represent 928s at the highest standard. I figure we will be celebrating just getting there, but your support will be very welcome!

Send me a pm when you guys arrive, and I will invite you for a beer! Actually, if a bunch of 928 people show up, we should all meet at Baja Cantina in Carmel Valley for eats and drinks.
Cheers,

This was surprising news to me, and definitely undermines all of the hard work that we all put in last year to make a such great presentation. Hard to build a strong foundation for future years of showing great cars when we are given notice now that we need to build a new foundation every year. Doesn't make sense to me, but as Roger points out, the "powers that be" tend do things their own way.

Adam, many of us greatly appreciate your efforts on behalf of the 928 and know this development is beyond your control. Thank you, looking forward to seeing you and other 928philes in August!
Richard, yes and heck yes! I want to see your 612, I am a big fan of those underappreciated cars.
