Once a few years ago I pulled into a parking garage where the young attendant was giving out the time tickets. He asked if my car was "One of those new Ferrari".

I think the coolest experience I've had was pulling up in front of a Target store to find a parking space. A mother was walking into the store with her baby boy (kid had to have been less than a year old) and I noticed that he was pointing at my car. The kid wasn't old enough to talk, nevermind have any knowledge of cars, but the shape and uniqueness of the car was enough to catch his eye. I thought that was pretty cool. You just know he's going to be a gear head when he grows up.

I had my GT picked up via flatbed through AAA when I first got it.
I had the car in the street when the guy arrived. He backed up to the car and parked; got out, walked right over to me, looked me in the eye with true remorse and said (like a concerned lover): "Hey, it happens".
I was mortified (and relieved all at once)!

We were visiting the Monterey Peninsula, taking an extra day on the way south from a Devek Days event near San Francisco. Early morning on our departure day, K wanted to visit a gellery for an item that caught her eye while wandering around the day before. As we were looking into the windows of the closed gallery, a couple walking by stopped near the car. "God, that's a beautiful car!" the woman said. We walked back to the car and had a few minutes discussion with them abut the car, the designer and the history.
Lots of questions and comments of course while stopped in various places. I'm amazed at the number of people who share that they "had one" or "my dad had one". At a golf tournament south of here a bit, a sixty-ish couple was walking past the car as I was getting in. He shared that he had owned an S4, but sold it to buy a Carrera. His 928 was a money pit compared to the Carrera he said. I shared that I do my own work on the car so the costs are more reasonable. That certainly caused a look of shock. Imagine someone actually --touching-- all those nasty car parts, then using those same hands on a set of golf clubs! It's Ok... I keep the clubs clean enough so I don't worry about contaminating the car bits.

Almost every time I fill up, someone says something.
Usually they ask what model it is, and what year.
Occasionally someone will ask if it's "their new model".
"Nope. It's an antique!"

While stopped at an intersection on a red light, a nearby school had just let out and a gaggle of 8ish year olds was crossing in front of me. As they approached I turned on the headlights.
The rising light pods was excitedly noticed by all of them.

I get a lot of compliments while in the car, as many have forgotten about the 928.
It's a cool car, and when folks see it, they often have a story of their own.

Most times when i visit a friend his neighbor kids, boys around 6 or 8 come ring the doorbell and ask me to pop up the headlights.
At a house waiting for my Mom the next door neighbors kid, a young boy about 4 or 5 pointed at almost bald rear tires and said, "You like to do burn outs!"

I must admit, I have been casting a sneaky eye over Cayman`s in the classifieds lately... anyway, my mate thought it might be nice for me to see the 928 swoop past in the fast line.. my god they are just so beautiful on the road, the stance, the look, they own the piece of tarmac they are occupying, I rarely get to see the 928 in motion... no Cayman for me thanks!!

We live in a rural farming community and the nearest town is right out of the Andy Griffith show and seeing a Porsche of any kind is unusual. Well, one Saturday my wife and I are at the bank...where I had parked out front on main street. After we were done there we were planning on going to the horse barn where her horse resides and are dressed appropriately for that endeavor. Anyhow. We're sitting in the lobby waiting for an attendant, when the busy-body drug store cash register lady comes walking in. She stops, looks round the lobby, where we are the only ones in the lobby, and goes on to ask the bank tellers "l had to come down here and see who owns the Porsche out front"..."but no one in the lobby looks the type".
I simply looked at my wife...and said..."should I or shouldn't I tell her its Pors-che...not Porsche?"
The tellers were having a hard time not telling her it was us, since they'd watched us walk in. But, they were use to her ignorance and busy-body ways...and probably liked keeping the info from her.
Brian.

Well, about 5 (or so) years ago I bought the car about 4 months prior and parked it to fix wiring, fuel and tranny lines etc.
I was on my way to work 40 miles at 6AM. No one else on the road.
Well, there is this one light that if you get stuck at you get all the rest for the next 15 or so miles. So, I would go around it through the 7/11.
Well, I did it this time with a good bit of flair and feeling the power I am smilin ear to ear.....
Then, I look in the rear-view and see a police car behind me, coming up fast, but no lights or sirens.
So, I pull over to wait for him.
He gets out, walks around the car very slowly....leans in and says " Do you drive for NASCAR or just practicing...." I thought I was going to jail.
Says he used to have one, we talk for a bit..then says
" You can go on your way, just keep it under 90".
I have seen him a few times after that and he always waves.

Well, my particular car has a Murph Stage 3 supercharger. Currently at 12psi of boost, x pipe and a ton of upgrades nothing has come close. Soon I will be installing a larger heat exchanger, better intercooler pump and reservoir, more boost, methanol injection and the Tec GT ems. Then it will be a " kill a mouse with a nuke" scenario.

Oman is a beautiful country- geographically speaking has lots of coast line, spectacular mountains, moderate size physically and small size population wise [less than 3 million- nearly half expatriates like me]. The main population centre is around Muscat- itself a very small village but with a lot of built up areas along a 30km coastal strip. There are not too many roads but the ones we have are really good for driving- some with truly spectacular views.
I have owned 928's now for some 16 years starting with my beautiful, late departed S4 with modified suspension, wheels and [of course] exhaust- you can hear me coming and most certainly going. My wife is just not into cars and particularly so low slung cars- she knows I own a Porsche 928 but beyond that not much else.
One afternoon she was with our two [atg the time] young daughters at a local supermarket on the side of the main expressway. She heard a car accelerating hard and said to the girls "that sounds like your Dad's car"- it was me returning home from a day's good sailing!
On another occasion the local Porsche club went to the first track day at the newly opened Dubai Autodrome. After the event my close friend and I drove back to Oman in our Porsches [he in a 993 C4] in the evening- a 430km drive. We were quite responsible and needless to say no one overtook us. The following evening my friendly landlord [ a major in the Royal Oman Police] popped by the house to pick up the rent and to my surprise inquired if I had returned from Dubai the previous evening. Sheepishly I said yes and his face beamed- he said that when I flew past him it was the best sounding car he had ever heard! I told him we were being very careful and responsible citizens to which he smiled wryly!
