The color of the car that Tony posted looks a lot more like 38A to me than the one in the ad. The one in the ad is definitely something further away from 38A. If the paint were that badly faded, then it would be blowing off in sheets. I don't recognize the color and I don't particularly like it, either. Though 38A is a cool color.

I saw that particular car a few years ago and parked my own shark right next to it - expecting the owner to at least say hello or something along those lines seeing as 928s aren't that common... it was a female all right, but I don't know that I'd call her a lady seeing as she couldn't even be bothered to look up when I said "nice car" - and with that hideous wart on the rear bumper (er, third brake light), I was the one trying to be nice...

I know someone with a Porsche "factory purple" 964 and this certainly wasn't the same colour. It could be a Euro car judging by the lack of rear bumper inserts and OEM third brake light and the inclusion of fender side markers aft of the front wheels, but it didn't look loved and/or looked after.

Veilchenblau is one of the few colors I would prefer over the rather boring slate grey that I have. Among the others are iris blue and amazon green.

I like it. But then I am a fan of the fringe metallic colors. Plenty of red, black, white and silver cars then and now. Not so many cars in these sorts of colors.

Rare and unusual colour , considering a lot of the boring colours that they are usually painted with.
It would sit proud on any of mine .

It totally does!! Just a different kind of purple. I still dont think the one I linked is a factory color. Doesnt look as "metallic" as the others.
Just showed it to my wife tonight. She likes it....great...guess who might have to buy a purple 928!

"Once you go Purple, you never go back".

I love it and it was my first choice............

Just for the record, the car in the OP's original link is the same colour as mine, Violet blue metallic, and was indeed a Porsche factory colour up until 1993 I believe.
I have a heritage certificate for my car and it states this colour as the original from the factory.
When I had my car stripped and repainted I did a lot of research with Porsche as I wanted to maintain the original colour and this was it. I'm sorry but I dont recall the paint code offhand but can get it if anyone is really that INTERESTED.
In my opinion it is a slightly lighter purple than the Amethyst coloured cars and depending on the light the colour can look either "flat, light or dark" like the one in the link from the OP or more metallic as mine does in the pictures below.
Either way it is unusual and in my humble opinion a great colour and really sets off the 928 GTS's classic lines but then I would say that wouldn't I!!
Here are a few pictures and sorry if I unintentionally make a couple of you throw up a little
