So I started stripping the old arm rests of the leather to begin repairing the holes cut into them by the PO. It was funny to see that the original pair of black leather arm rests had different colors once the leather was removed. One was blue and the other was brown. It looks like Porsche used the defective vinyl ones after they were repaired to wrap with leather. Who knew...

So the car has been at the upholster's shop for the past two weeks at least. The rear seats are having custom lower cushions made to match the contour of the seat tubs instead of trying to reupholster the factory cushions. The headliner, a-pillars, and rear glass surround panels have been reupholstered. He very much enjoyed redoing the headliner. It was his favorite headliner yet.
All of the carpet is being replaced and the rear seat center cover has been recovered in new leather with double top stitch french seams. The front console and lid have also been recovered (but not reinstalled yet). It's too bad no one makes replacement seat belt bezels. Those are all cracked from age...
I decided to go with the most modern headliner material possible to give it a "new" feeling inside so the a-pillars, headliner and sunroof cover, front visors, along with the rear upper hatch piece and the rear sun visors have all been covered in this tight weave padded headliner material. So far so good in my opinion. The rear visors have been completely remanufactured.
A good day or more was spent on straightening the rear glass side panels, reinforcing them with steel bar, and glassing over the repair to help stablize the panel board material. Hopefully they do not ever go back to a curled up position...

I was looking at something earlier today with that pattern and can't remember wt heck it was, AMG maybe?
Wait, is this at all related to the project thread to adapt 928 interior over to boxster or cayman or something?
Anyway, that's a great pic. I'm a tough sell on an 82 but it just looks very clean, tight, panels aligned etc. Great contrast with the black trim...Would be nice to see those side mouldings zipped off....

More info on gaining headroom, please. I have an '83 with powered driver's seat and sunroof and need an extra inch or so. I have a long torso and short legs. If my legs were proportional to my torso, I'd be 6'6" tall instead of 6'2". As it is, I don't get into the car, I put it on, snugly. LOL @ss firmly planted in the seat and head against the headliner. Forget about wearing a ball cap, much less a helmet!! At least I don't bounce around in the car. The seats look great, can't wait to see the finished interior.

I just picked the car up this afternoon after about 4 weeks at the upholstery shop. He promised me that this was going to be the last 928 he's ever going to work on- everything took him twice as long. Its a shame because he did great work! I'm sure I'll be able to convince him otherwise when the time comes for me to bring him another one...
Anyway, I personally love how the rear seats came out. They are my favorite part of the interior now. I kind of wish I broke up the front seat inserts instead of going with one large piece- next time I guess. The new carpets also look great- custom made to fit in the car. The fuse panel now has button snaps instead of straps. Much improved. I'll have to grab some pictures of the headliner and the visors on another day but they look nice and modern which is what I wanted. He also recovered the arm rest with new leather and a little more padding and wrapped the base with new material as well. Now I just need to finish fixing up the center dash piece and the door panels and arm rests. By the time I'm through with it, every square inch of the interior will be recovered with fresh material. What carpeting kit is that? I really like the fit and weave. I have interior restoration planned for 2016 and trying to make some decisions. Your project came out great!
