Thanks George. Really nice shooting and video comp work. What do you use to assemble the vids? I have a need for something a bit more efficient than Premiere for the time-lapse vids like the one I posted in my "Been Away" thread. I am resizing and creating daily GIFs using a Perl CPAN module, Imager. I haven't found a clever way of turning 3,500 stills into an MP4 or other youtube vid without having to spend a lot of time just operating the UI.
I use Corel VideoStudio to do the photo to video conversion. Set the Default photo/color duration to 1 second, then drag in all the photos into the Video Track. I then save a "raw" mp4 of the video. I use the "raw" mp4 in the final version with music and titles. Use the Speed/Time-lapse function to adjust the length of the finished video. I'm using version X6, but they're up to version X8 now. It goes on sale at Fry's every so often at a quite reasonable price as well as on Corel's site and other web retailers.
The photo preparation I do in Irfanview. It has a batch facility to resize, crop, border/frame, and add text. I run it on all the photos and create the input images. Then use Faststone Image Viewer to look at the results and delete any that don't look good, or don't fit the flow. Both of these products are freeware.
Of course this assumes that all the photos come out of the camera in a usable form. If I need to clean up the images, then I use Neat Image or Topaz Denoise for noise reduction, and Photoshop for the more heavy lifting. I try to avoid this, since it takes a lot of time, but sometimes it's required to get a decent image. The noise reduction software is free to try, then pay if you want to keep using it and Photoshop is for purchase only, though the new CC model lets you pay by the month. Photoshop Elements, which is a lot cheaper does most of the things I need, but since Berkeley has a site license for Adobe Products, I can use Photoshop CS6.

Thanks George... not so very different from my process, though for stills I shoot RAW and use different tools. What I am looking for video-wise is something that can live on the public Linux webserver where I FTP the images every 15 seconds, and encode the video from the raw 1280x720 JPEGs via a cronjob. I should probably start looking into python alternatives for the encoding.

What is the story on the convertible 928? I think I saw that one for sale in Sacramento for around $5,000 just a couple months ago. I considered buying it just for the rarity factor.

Since the event was last week, you have a year to get the 928 running. But if you're just spamming the list, then it doesn't matter.

There are several great looking 928's at this event...but this one leaves me in awe.
Can't even comprehend how someone would get a engine compartment, and the rest of it, to look that way. Looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.
Excellent videos, too...finally had a chance to check them out. Two thumbs up!
Brian.
