928 Dreaming - Concepts - GTS Widebody

and if your nose was attached to your chest, it would stick out as far as well....... point is.... your nose doesn't belong on your chest and the wing doesn't belong (for any reason) on the roof. most importantly, it makes a cool pic, look really stupid. otherwise very cool. however, don't know how I feel about seeing the rivets in the bolt on fender. if its a concept car, why not just have those fenders custom shaped with no bolt on look?

Ok, since you asked for all comments...
I'm not a big fan of widebody conversions. I am of the opinion that the original design is gorgeous, and WBs take away from that. And since the 928 wasn't raced much (factory), there was never a "real" WB made for that. Again, my opinion.
But somehow, yours looks nice. Maybe because the hardware that attaches the flares is visible, it's clear that they are "add-ons" and the original lines are still there. I don't know, but I like it a lot more than the other WBs out there.
I think the graphics are overdone, but that's pretty typical of a concept car.
Please take off the roof wing. On the one you based yours on, the spoiler has to be on the roof, because it's the back of the car. On the 928, it's halfway up the car. Aesthetically, it messes with the roofline, putting a huge distraction in what should be a flowing line.
Aerodynamically, it is even worse.
Personally (again, my opinion), I like "lip" spoilers over wings. There are some aerodynamic situations where a wing is a better choice, but I don't think that applies to the 928 (could be wrong on that, no data just WAG).
Last, the dual exhaust exit in back isn't practical. The gas tank is on the right side, and running a pipe out that side either has to run too close to the tank, or take a convoluted path to get there. There's a reason that even the true dual pipe 928s have a double exhaust coming out the left side. Again, I realize its a drawing/concept, not a real car. But I like my concepts to be as close to what would work in the real world as possible.
But it's a nice looking concept. I like it a lot better than the one with sidepipes.
Please continue to post your ideas & drawings. I may or may not like all of them, but it's nice to see what other people think looks good.

The GTS Pantera had screwed on flairs, and the car looked like crap, in my opinion, and a lot of Pantera owners agreed. To me they're just tacky looking. Same for the 928 IMHO. Ditch the decals too.

Thanks 77Tony!
Thanks Wisconsin Joe. I agree with a lot of that.
Hi 545svk. I love the 935 too. Will definitely give it some thought.
Cheers!

Hi All,
Looks like the Black Interceptor from the original Mad Max (coolest Australian car ever, and the fellow who designed the body kit went on to design the Mercedes CL). Also looks like the current stuff coming out of Japan, Rocket Bunny and Liberty Walk. While I am at it, has anyone ever done a 928 Targa (other than that white one from BB)? I think a targa with a polished steel piece like the 991 Targa could look pretty cool.

there is a purpose for the bolt on fenders... on race cars, they can be replaced. on street cars, its an afterthought mod, because they are too lazy or cheap to to the correct body work and paint it.
only at FIA Ferarri 458 can pull it off ..

Hey thanks for all of the feedback guys! I really appreciate the criticism as well as the the words of encouragement. I'll take it all on board.
My plan is to produce a range of different 928 designs (as opposed to revisiting & refining one), so I'll keep all of the feedback in mind for the later designs.
It's all just a bit of fun really. For what it's worth the position of the spoiler was mainly a visual thing, as were the side pipes in the previous design. For the roof spoiler, I took some inspiration from the Alfa Brera which I quite like also.
Anyhow, please keep the comments coming, both positive & critical, & hope you like the next one when it comes along!
All the best,
Tom

Hi 928cs,
Yes I really loved the look of the original concept car. It also had very similar dimensions to the 928!
It is a shame the production car changed so much.

This is a long ways away from the types of concepts you're creating (which are great, btw) but between the Rat Rod craze down here in South Florida, and the resurgence of the Mad Max films...I am digging the idea of a "post-apocalyptic" 928 conversion. It wouldn't really be a viable sand-crawling Mad Max car, but would definitely have that vibe. I'm imagining the hatch area converted to a "wagon" look like that Estate racer, with two big "fuel kegs" like the latest version of Max's car (I might put screw-on taps on the back and fill 'em with homebrew, so I'm sure to get arrested) and maybe an extended frame with dual rear axles and knobby tires. Of course, the obligatory roots supercharger poking through the hood. And this, natch:
Wildly impractical and utterly crazy, but fun, if I had unlimited time and money, I'd find a junked car and give it a shot. I don't have the skill to model it graphically, unfortunately. Actually I don't have the skill to do the mods, either lol...
