There will be other cars. The 997 is that car right now that is out of the limelight now because of the 991. Some 997 owners may be moving up to something newer and better so 997s will be flooding the market soon (if they haven't already), just as the 996 did.

I'm not sure about that. The 991 is a larger car with more of a GT fit than the 997 was and is also has electric steering assist instead of hydraulic so and bit less feel and feedback. There are some of us 997 owners that wsomehang onto our current cars because if some of these features and not move to the 991. Are there plenty of 997 to choose from - yes, but I don't expect to see the market flooded with them. The 997 was such a body and interior improvement over the 996 (back to the coke bottle shape of the 993) with separate headlights and not the "fried egg" combination setup shared with the 986 Boxster, that a lot of people traded up, but I'm not seeing that same thing happening between the 997 and 991.

Woow, pretty soon these new Porsche will drive itself. New BMW now has elect water pump, pwr steering, pwr brake, throttle, just missing the controls and integrate to navigation and active cruise to drive and brake itself. The newer BMW is no longer a driver's cars, IMO.
Plastic intake, valve cover, waterpump, t-stat are already standard material.

Reliability comparison of 997.1 vs 928 S4
Hello Bmw635,
Our 928S has 200,000 miles, the 996 Cabriolet has 80,000 miles and the Z4 Roadster 95,000 miles.
The 996 is the most comfortable of the three and attracts the most attention. It is also the most fun on the "track" as it is faster than the Z4.
The newer Porsche has been more reliable for equivalent miles. All have been year around daily drivers. We use the newer vehicles as daily drivers due to improved creature comforts, i.e. Suspension, brake, traction control and communication systems.
The family 958, Cayenne S (V8) 3,000 miles is awsome!
Make your spouse happy, go newer is better! Then she will encourage you to get a 987 Cayman GT4.
