I love this summation:
"I'm still thrilled at the sight of a 928, S or otherwise, coming up in my rear-view mirror. There is no current-production Ferrari or Lamborghini that could give me greater pleasure than a 32-valve 928S, and there is no car I would rather own. It is unfortunate that the 928S of my dreams would cost me about what I would pay for a farm in the Irish Hills, which I can't afford either. I'd be torn on the subject of automatic versus five-speed manual gearbox. In my heart I know that all Porsches should be equipped with five-speed manuals, and I love the five-speed that comes with the 928S. But, on the other hand, I also know that the Porsche 928S engine, with its eight cylinders, 32 valves, 288 horsepower, and 302 pounds-feet of torque, needs a manual transmission about as much as Susan Sarandon needs a third nostril. Maybe I'd get the automatic and try to drive it so that on*lookers would think it had the manual. I dunno. I do know, however, that this car embodies everything, inside and out, that I regard as the embodiment of automotive virtue. There is, for me, simply none nicer. —David E. Davis, Jr"

Thanks, hate the thought of adding to the chaff and its been more than once that I've posted something only to later find that I've actually read/commented on a thread on the same thing....uberenzo.
Anyway.....one thought I had was I'd like to get a new set of P6s so I can break 'em free at will...guess if I keep my summer tires on for a few more days it'll be same-same. .gee, remember when 14 sec qrtr mile was pretty darn good? haha.
Anyway, I'll add this, cool review, someone that's clearly falling to the spell.. gotta love OZ...and huge kudos to the owner for keeping after it so that there is nothing out of sorts.
"a bit thirsty'....'95 5.4, ya think?

The guy pretends to be an idiot on some aspects-like Clarkson doee- just a matter of style I guess, but really liked the Review otherwise.

I enjoyed the article. The following responses were fun, too. Especially the "classic car collector and restorer" who said the engines need to be pulled to replace the spark plugs.

Odd that you should unearth this and post David E's comment. A few days ago marked 3 1/2 years since David left this earth, and with him went the most prodigious automotive mind we've known. David was a titan in his craft, and I had the enormous pleasure of being influenced by him as a high-schooler reading C&D when I should have been studying, motivated by him as I embarked on my career, and privileged to have been able to call him colleague and mentor over a dozen years together at Automobile magazine and later, the early days of Winding Road.
I'll forever recall the day and place when I told David that I had just bought a 928S4, and he positively gushed about his love for the car and my impeccable taste for having bought one. I'd arrived.

This has been posted before, but it's always worth reading again...DED's first impression of the 928:
"Cynics and died-in-the-wool 911 and 356 fanatics tend to write the 928 off as a cross between a 924 and a Corvette. They're wrong. If you approach this car with an open mind, open the door, sit down, fire it up and drive it away, it will quite simply blow your mind. To get out of whatever you were driving and take the 928 for a spin is as liberating as your first ride on a motorcycle, your first kiss from a girl who knew how. You may frighten yourself, in a burst of unbridled enthusiasm, but the 928 won't. It's a rolling womb of whispering, humming, tactile assurances that everything on this particular road on this particular day is going to be all right. Dreamlike, you fly down the road like a bat out of hell with nothing more than the blurring of the trees and the moan of the engine to call your attention to the speedometer. This is grand touring, folks, and whatever it costs, it's worth It."
