Who was the original owner of your car?

Private car sales are non existent in Japan, because technically impossible. From one owner to the next, the vehicle MUST pass through the hands of an authorised dealer for ownership transfer. NOTE: Genuine Service Books are almost never available with Japanese imports as practically no one in Japan bothers writing in them nor have use for them. This is because maintenance is always done by the dealer and private sales do not exist. Often the owner will dispose of anything that can trace the car back to him or her so he/she is not bombarded with more junk mail or telesales.

What makes you think it was converted? GTS rear fenders was Exclusive option in '90-91 MY. Many of these cars went to Japan. They were sold as 928 S4 Exclusive. Option code is XG8. There were 70 made in 1990 MY, 122 in 1991 MY. 15 '90 MY LHD, 50 '91 MY LHD and 5 '90 MY RHD went to Japan. All automatics meaning S4

There is a sticker from when the timing belt was changed, maybe I will try them for history.
I know about the car culture and how they buy/sell in Japan as stated previously as I've been looking into importing another but Japan and UK must have the lowest values as after buying and importing with duty and tax I'm not sure if it's worth it, especially sight unseen and unknown TBF risk but might take the chance on a manual RHD however they are very rare there.

C18 Japan (RHD)
M567 Windshield green graduated tint
M980 Seats ruffled leather
I don't have much chance of that manual RHD from Japan then!

My 86.5 was originally owned by a cosmetic surgeon in Slidell, LA who owned it for 9 years. He traded it in, and I bought it from a Porsche dealership in Houston in '95.
He made the national news in 2012 when he flew his twin engine plane from LA to FL and passed out over the Gulf of Mexico. The plane circled for a while and jets were scrambled to check it out, but it eventually ran out of fuel and crashed into the gulf. He had recently lost his license to practice. I remember the news story on the national news, but didn't know at the time it was the original owner of my car, until I put the pieces together last year. I posted another thread about it.

I would have to look in the glove box but I know both previous owners. The original owner ordered the car through a dealer in North Carolina. Her, yea, HER name address, and phone number are in the original book.
She sold it to the 2nd owner in 1986. I bought it from him in 2013. 62,000 somewhat documented miles.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Saud, third son of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Bought the car when he was 20, while a student in England. He brought the car back to Riyadh around 1990, and due to having some influence was able to register it despite it being RHD. I picked it up in the sale yards in 2001, registered in the name of one of his minders, so its technically a two owner car now. I made it a condition of sale that it could be successfully transferred to me or the deal was off. I drove it around Riyadh for a year, which was fun, as I was pulled over by Traffic Police twice as they didnt believe a RHD car could be legal except for Diplomatic plates. Added to this was the looks we got when my wife was in 'the driving seat', as women are not allowed to drive there.

I bought mine from a broker, who was selling it for the guy who looked after the Bill Gates car collection. It was his DD. They paid more for the Porsche rebuilt transmission than I did for the car!

Mine was sold to an unknown (to me) in UK 1980 then imported to Thailand in 1989 by a Thai who studied in UK. In Thailand you can import a car tax free if you study abroad for more than 1.5 year, otherwise approx. 400% tax.
Original Thai owner was in Sattahip which is a Navy town in Thailand so probably the son of an Admiral. The PO (Irish) said he bought it from a Army General so looks like it gone through a few ranks over the years.
I would love to know more of the history of my car especially the early UK years but looks like I can't find any more.

Great! It seemed a foregone conclusion that none of us were the original purchaser of our cars. This could be a Panorama story. Perhaps a Tale of Two 928s, where the other is a rescue.
