Three Wheelin'
Marble falls is too far for taxi.. rent car or maybe do another post and a 928 driver could pick you up...

Reserved my room for this today and look forward to meeting you folks.
I'm brand new to 928's. Bought one for a silly low price at last week's Mecum auction that amazes me. A 1981 with only 12,150 well documented miles on it. It was not advertised in advance and not even listed in the day's bid list, so no 928 fans came to bid on it. When I went back to pick up the car, another 928 owner told me about Sean Ratts, who lives very close. Sean checked it out and I'll need little work to get the car right. I'm feeling very lucky and should probably buy a lottery ticket while I'm on this roll!

Welcome and Congrats, Sounds like a great find!!
Looking forward to seeing you at 3rd Coast!
BTW, Fuel lines and Ball joints come to mind on that model year, but I'm sure Sean has gone over that w you.
DFW is a great place to own a 928, lots of support here!!

Thanks, Chuck. Sean did a great job checking it out and the fuel lines are on his punch list. It also needs a new oil pan gasket and a couple of parts in the AC system. I was amazed to find a great 928 mechanic living within 10 miles of me.

Route
Here is an overview of all the roads we have driven in the last few years. There are all sorts of combinations and various towns we can hit using these routes.
I'm really not sure what to do this year. I know those that have been going for a few years might be tired of the same ol roads. But it is challenging hitting all the stopping points along the way, and getting the timing right so that those not in our group driving directly to the stopping points and lunch venue can meet us at the right times. We basically have to pick all the stopping points (Winery, Olive oil company, lunch, pee breaks etc.) and then plan the route around that.
I have kicked around trying to get over by Leaky, TX. But it is WAY out there, and I haven't been out that way EVER. And also not sure about places out that way that could seat 70 people for lunch either. Second picture shows how far Leakey is away from where we normally drive around....
For Lunch, we are looking at Salt Lick BBQ again if the route takes us East. If we wind up out West around lunch time, then we might POSSIBLY eat at the Airport Diner @ The Hangar Hotel in Fredericksburg . The Airport Diner is a big IF. Not sure about the seating, prices, availability, stuff like that.
Has anyone ever ate at the Cypress Creek Café in Wimberley???

Went to Boxstoberfest. They started at the airport in Fredericksburg and drove out to leaky for lunch. There was a BBQ place there setup for the 150 in the group.

I was in Wimberley recently and saw CCC but didn't eat there. The town is usually very crowded and I would think parking for our group would be difficult. Salt lick was a bit pricey I thought, but I know its very hard to find a place that can handle our crowd, and they handled us well. The place we ate in dripping springs when Donald and I planned the drive years ago is now out of business. Guess if we get too big, I guess we could consider splitting into two groups for lunch at nearby restaurants.
As long as we have some water crossings, cattle grates, and random deer to dodge, any route is fine with me!
Will take a closer look at the maps when I'm not on a smart phone.

Ok some more info. Found out that the Hanger Diner requires $500 to book the diner for our large group, 12.95 per person for lunch, plus 28.25 percent gratuity added to each bill which covers tip and tax. That would be almost 25 bux per person just for lunch. Wow.
And looking back at the Cypress Creek Café, it is only about 12 miles further south than Salt Lick BBQ. And there is a decent size area out back to park in. I haven't called them yet though to see if they could handle a group like ours.

I vote for more driving and less potty stops. How about a route around the new Austin toll way ? As close to the Autobahn as you can get in Texas. :-)

Booked the room last night. They are down to 2 Queen-sized beds in a lakeside room.
Salt Lick was pretty damn good IMHO. They're also trying to make in-roads into the DFW area.
