We just picked up our will call tickets for the concours on Sunday at the Spanish Bay Inn in Monterey. Tomorrow (Friday) we will visit the works reunion at Rancho Canada Golfclub and the Legends of the Autobahn at the Niclaus Club in Monterey. On our way coming from Yosimity we spotted a gold coloured 928S in the California hills at approx 1 pm. I got a picturee somewhere of the car driving in front of our Cruise America RV.
Perhaps some of this forum will be at Works Reuninon also? I will be the one wearing the white T-short with the 1978 blueprint 928 brochure printed on.
The werks reunion is organised by the PCA

Back home. All I can say is wow. If you are a car guy, then this is a trip to plan for at least once before you die. It's that good.
Saw a good number of sharks too, including a gold 82 Weissach at, of all places, the Corsano Italiano on Saturday. Met some good rennlisters/928 guys on Thursday at the Baja Cantina in Carmel. I touched a $38M Ferrari 250 GTO at Bonhams, and a $13.8 M Ferrari California at Gooding, to name just a few of the amazing cars. Saw Leno, Keith Martin, Barry McGuire and got my picture taken with Wayne Carini.
There is nothing like this. We did a lot, culminating with Pebble Beach Concours de'Elegance on Sunday. More to follow, plus pics.

It was a great time for sure. We (Jeff- Speedtoys. Mark- Granprixweiss928) all volunteered at Russo and Steele driving cars to the block. On thursday we (Mark and I) were at Porsche Werks Reunion where Mark took second place in his category.
The auction was a blast. I got to drive an infamous 80s supercar, a 84 Lambo Countach and Mark drove several Ferraris, a Daytona (I think) being one of the last to go across the block. Jeff brought up the rear with a pre-war BMW.
We all had big smiles on our faces after that!

It was great week. Wife and I went out Tuesday and spent the day in San Fran, then Wed took a slow drive down PCH 1, made it to the beach house and met up with our friends from MT (Dennis and his wife, there with a 74 Pantera). Lots of visiting and single malt scotch - great evening!
The car stuff stuff started Thursday. We went early to drop off the Pantera at the Baja Cantina, as there was going to be a good gathering of Panteras there that evening. We were then going to do the Ocean Ave show in downtown Carmel, but ended staying right where we were for the whole day. The Quail is right next to the Cantina, and damn, the cars that were coming in! Plus, PCNA was having an all day event, so we parked the rental in their lot, and hung out there for awhile checking out the new 918, Cayman and Boxster GTS's, and other assorted Porsches. Plus free food and drink. Other marques were having corporate hospitality functions, so we went from party to party, without the overwhelming crowds, and no need to drive. Saw lots of great new cars and classics.
We then hithched a ride on a golf cart over to Bohnams, at the Quail Lodge, where we spent several hours drooling over some of the finest cars there are, including the record setting 62 Ferrari GTO. Saw several folks there including Keith Martin from What's My Car Worth. The man knows his cars.
Then late lunch at the Quail Clubhouse, and looked at more great cars coming onto the lawn in prep foor the big show the next day, all without the crowds - everyone else was downtown. The Cantina started filling up around 4pm, and that was a blast. A couple of 928s appeared, and I met those guys. Had dinner and lots of drinks. Then back to the beach house for more of the same.
Friday was Leguna Seca Vintage races (trials/heats on Friday), where there was among other things an authentic 550 Porsche Spyder. Love that car - you can really see where the Boxster lines come from. The car is a legit vintage racer, all numbers matching, and worth millions. As was the authentic 62 GTO that was also racing, plus assorted Shelby AC Cobras, Mustangs, Lolas, McClarens, CAN-AM cars, and on and on. Our admission included full paddick access, and because it was just the trials, the crowds weren't bad and we could talk to the owners about their cars. Needed earplugs in the stands it was so loud. Ended up watching from the top of the hill with good drinks, and watched more from the famous Corkscrew. What an amazing place Legun Seca is. And the value of the cars being driven in anger is breath taking!
Dinner in Monterey at Cannery Row, more car watching plus humpback whales, porpises, sea otters, seals, and many cool looking birds. It doesn't get any better!
Saturday morning, the Concorso Italiano. Jezus the Ferraris! And Maseratis, Panteras, Lambos, and everything else. Plus an 82 Weissach! There was a group of notable Porsches parked at the far end of the fairway. Did not catch up with the owner however.
After that, on to Gooding Auctions. More great cars - including the $15M (with reserve) 61 Califorinia Spider Ferrari. It is wild how close you can get to these cars (of course you have to pay to get in). It was awesome watching Charlie Ross do the auction. Been watching him on TV for years now. He really knows how to work the bidders.
Then Sunday - early breakfast in Carmel, then on to Pebble - it is everything it is made out to be and a lot more. Great day there in a spectacular setting. Curiously, though, there was not a single Porsche on the lawn! How can that be? Anyway, in spite of that oversight, it was a fantastic event.
All in all, an event for anyone interested in cars. Lots to do and so much to see

^+928!! Really, thanks! What a treat! Fond memories of that part of the world, especially Laguna Seca, from my days at the Army Language School. I'll go over these pics more than once, for sure.

Going again, I would skip the Italian show, and hit the Werks Reunion. The Italian show was very good, but expensive for what it was.
Footnote as to the cars at Pebble Beach - there were 20 Testarossas there, which is probablyabout half of what remains worldwide. According to one knowledgable estimate that I heard, at least a quarter of a BILLION dollars worth of cars, just in that row alone!

Ed et al,
Thanks for the notes and pix. Helps me reminisce about the two trips we took for that 'concours weekend' in Monterrey over the past 10 years. It is certainly one of the top few 'car' stuff experiences I've had over the past 20 years.
Can't help but have a great time and even greater memories from attending.
