Default Impulse Buy for the S3

So I came across this shift **** on local CL.
I Thought it would look freaking good with my aluminum shift gate.
The seller was an old guy cleaning out his shop.
He insists it's OEM. If it's aftermarket I've never seen the like.
Solid chrome, I could not find the equivalent with online search.
356 vintage?
Anybody know where this came from?

Don't know where it came from, but it looks like old quality. Use it well. If you don't put it in your car, it could stand alone on your desktop.

That looks like a great find to me- I am sure someone will chime in and let us know its place in Porsche history.

Yes, I'm pretty jazzed.
I want it to be the center piece of the car.

I've only been home 10 minuets, I ran past my wife and posted it immediately!

It's seems to be a 10 metric hole.
I'm going to work with an aluminum adapter tonight and come up with a plan.

Looks like the same cloisonne insert as the old Amco 356 ***** used, but I've never seen a chrome **** like that. That'll look really cool!

Thanks guys.
I will try and put it to good use.

I tapped a 10 mm hole in my adapter very carefully.
Then cut the head off a 10 metric screw so it could be threaded from both directions.
I added some over all length on my short shifter by doing this, so I cut and notched the short shifter down further.

To make the fork on the adapter secure to shifter arm, I plan on drilling cross holes and using some recessed hex screws.

It won't work!, It won't fit!, quite possibly could cause tensioner failure! I'll take it off your hands

You're doing it wrong. That goes on an OEM Porsche tow hitch (aka "trailer coupling" #928 722 031 02).

So it's in.
Tapped 3, #8 set screws to hold adapter to shifter arm.
Used black Marine wrap to tidy up column and eliminate metal to metal vibration on the shift gate.

Looks seriously mean and businesslike, like something from a racecar that was adapted for street driving. I like it.

You guys are all just too young. I think that was in the JC Whitney Catalog in about 1968.

Yeah. Along with the Flamethrower 10,000 FC headlights. Lots of good stuff in that catalog.
