satin black metallic ?
just out of curiosity: has anyone else got a satin black metallic car (paint code 729)?
AFAIK it is a special color Porsche offered for the S4/GT and later cars but I have never seen another one and even the Landsharkoz site doesn't list it.
The color can be a PITA as it always looks dusty but it often gets compliments at meetings. One guy actually planned to paint his 914 in this color ...don't know if he ever did that.

I have some intrest in going satin black. Sort of like the stealth fighter. I saw a wrapped 911 at VIR over the weekend that looked great. It was pulling away around the tail lights though so I am still not convinced about a wrap yet. I would love to see some pictures of that color.

The color I would like to do my car in is a current Jaguar color -- Stratus Grey
Go to a shaguar dealer and check it out. almost black but a real nice metallic flake. It would look sweet on the 928.

I have a car in that color too:
Been trying to get a paint-stick for it, with no luck so far.
In anything but direct sunlight, it appears plain black, albeit perhaps with a slightly more greyish hue than 'real' black.
Personally find it a bit dull, compared to all the exotic colors available, but at least it was a color I could live with.
My car was originally from Germany too, when I imported it back in 2007. It has apparently had a stay in Poland too, judging from the service book.
Regards,
Erling

Frank: this color is quite different to the satin black you typically find in wraps where the "satin" effect comes from the surface texture.
The main difference is that it not only contains the metal flakes but also a small percentage of white pigment. That makes it look a lot less shiny than black and lighter than black metallic. The clear coat gives it a deep shine, though, but only when absolutely clean and dust-free.
It's very hard to photograph so that you get the impression. It also varies with the lighting. I don't remember what other pigments are in there but under some conditions you can see a reddish hue und under other conditions it looks more blueish.
BTW: I found a touch up paint pen from motib which comes reasonably close to the original.

I recall when looking to buy a 928 checking out a Java Black S4 here in Australia. It is a metallic black and in the right lighting conditions seemed to some some deep bronze colours. In low light night time it looks black. Quite a nice colour for a black car and I am not really into black. I believe this is a more unusual colour in the 928s and not many came in this colour.
