NORCAL/SF Bay Area Fun Run, June 18th
Looking at a friendly family fun run down the peninsula from the San Mateo area, to Ben Lomond in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Start at the parking lot that is on the very end of Skyline a few hundred feet from where it meets 92, and run a friendly spirited drive the 24 miles from there to Highway 9, and then the 14-20 miles down into Boulder Creek. The option here is the normal route on 9 from where 236 meets it 7 miles down from the summit, OR at the 236 junction, take a really pretty drive into the old growth redwood forest & part (Big Basin Park) with an optional stop in there as well at the park office if anyone wants to see anything or grab material to take home. I happen to live in this park..however, we wont be stoppin at my house.
We will continue down 9 to it's conclusion in Santa Cruz..and find ourselves ending the day down on the Wharf for dinner.
This should end up as a pleasurable afternoon, lots of photos..and just a nice drive..which will be up to the limits of flat landers traveling the roads to see Nana in the mountains..most of which pull over, but some...

We used to do almost that same route with our dirtbikes on knobbies back in the times before the cops started showing up. If we ever had trouble, we would just ditch off a fire road somewhere.
Those were the days Fantastic and beautiful roads.

Im guessing say, 2pm...and with a couple photo stops (assuming wives & kids are coming) where we can chill..this can turn a straight 90min drive into a couple hours+ of hanging out and such..and still enjoy plenty of sun on the wharf in SC.

Jeff:
Shall I put this out to the Norcal group?
This should be a leisurely ride as Skyline is populated, busy and patrolled. Good for the family, like you said.

There are two overlooks we'll stop at..one not far after the start, another a few miles down 9...and the group can take a vote on whether or not we catch the roller coaster at the bottom of 9, or detour into the state park in the big trees.
