If we are talking "toys", a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 I had from 1976 to 1996 and sold when I bought my 89 S4. I do miss it, but i have driven the 928 much more and enjoy every minute.

Honda Accord and not I have a Nissan Versa. Gotta say that I love my Versa. But that is only because my 928 is still in project mode. Before the 928 though my last project was a 924 turbo that I was hoping to do the Carrera GT Conversion on. My wife made me sell the 924T when we moved to Charlotte and after 3 years finally got back to porsche by getting the 928 project this past summer.
The anticipation and drive to scrounge up money and work on it to drive my own 928 for the first time is killing me. I am a teacher so I am hoping by next August I will be able to get her going. As for the 924Turbo, my son (9) said he wouldn't mind fixing one up for high school with me since I already told him he will never drive the 928.

I actually decided to own a 928 the first time I drove one. That was IIRC 1983. A friend had had a very good year and had bought one, and I had the opportunity to drive it. That, for better or worse hooked me in.
So, at that point in time, I actually was driving a 240Z Datsun...hey remember that? (When they were Datsun..not Nissan) (Mine had the good carbs and I had several offers for the carbs....seemed odd to me at the time).....before that was the party bus, a 1971 Cadillac Eldorado Ragtop.....room for you and ten of your closest friends.....Vacuum controlled everything from hell...and front wheel drive to boot. And, that came after two Pontiac Trans Ams....the 1978 was a POS, and the 1971 (455 HO) was incredible..to many mods to mention but what a car.. (Yes the suspension was heavily modified...it was basically a stock car with license plates).
However, between 1984 or so and 2007 when I finally decided to buy my 928, it was a series of 4x4 SUV's for lifestyle and family reasons.
Now, it just kills me to have to park it for four months a year and go back to the truck..........oh well.

I had a DATSUN 260Z with the plunger type carbs- kill me.
The orange bugger broke down every 2.5 weeks!! I'd call the same tow-truck co.-Jays Towing so often that they knew who I was on the phone just by my voice!
Cool car -I thought- at the time, but what a pain in the ****!

I've always had a 4runner for a DD living in Colorado, but I've also always had a toy or 2 also. Vette's, TA's, Camaro's, some ricer toys. I used to swap cars out every 4 months or so. So the fact that I'm going on 3 years in the 928 is a real statement for how much I enjoy it.
My new job involves driving a lot of the brand new cars on long distance runs. I have been in a ton of cars lately. The comfort in my 928 is better then most of the cars I'm in and my seats are 30 years old and tired.

Your Son reminds me of my 10.5 year-old. He wishes upon the 928 . I will have it ready for him when he hit's 16 years old, like one of the great Father's has done for his Son on this forum- the green machine!. Provided he doe's well at his job,. I.e school.
Spring I will be looking for a GTS-928 and I'm alway's looking out again for an UR-QUATTRO.
Sorry, but I'm not too familiar with the Nissan Versa. What the heck is that?
I feel stupid.- like to know though.
- I too am controlled by finances. I'm only a Machinist and I feel your frustration and economy.
Have fun with your Son.

Was a really reliable and amusing form of transport. (Alternator was also far more understanding than our current cars. I had Hella Rally lights (with "illegal" bulbs) all over the top and bottom of the bumper and the gauge never showed the slightest drop when the full house was on....AND...Discovered you could actually stow two full sets of scuba gear and a friend n the passenger seat, and still drive four hours in comfort too. Just sayin'

No,
Sorry to have to share, but....mine was actually a salvage unit that had rolled and was rebuilt with fibreglass everything. I don't think the mechanicals or electricals were touched though. I checked it out and had a friend check the frame at a body shop, and the only thing I did to it was drive the hell out of it and change the oil.

The car I owned before buying my first 928 was a...you don't want to know.
1961 Rambler American convertible. The single worst car ever built, and the single most fun car to drive, from a comedic standpoint.
I'll spare you all the stories of hubcaps flying off, and using logs in the rain to pry trunnions back into place. And the absolutely impossible to change driveshaft u-joints. And blowing up a tranny at 2am after a Miles Davis concert. And the small back seat, wink, wink, nod, nod.

You could say that. At least the Jetta had torque. Funny though. Sold the Jetta to the VW dealer, paid off the little bit I owed on it, paid cash for the shark, paid cash for a winter AWD vehicle (2000 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer) and put cash in the bank.
Seemed like a good idea at the time. Still does. License fees on the 928 and Explorer are less than the Jetta. Insurance on both is less than the Jetta. Spend 4x as much on fuel but who cares.
