Boganspeeds Grunt Injection - LS1 conversion

Boganspeeds Grunt Injection - LS1 conversion
After some encouragement from a couple members, I decided it was time to come out of the closet and admit to being a cross dressing gimp ball muncher. But even more socially unnaceptable....I'm installing a Chev LS1 into my my '82 928 Auto !
Of course, this idea is unpopular with some, but we can't all be perfect.
Some members will have already seen some of these pics.
They've been taken over about an eight month period, which just shows how slow I work !
So, the car....
Good condition exterior with one spot of rust near the rear quarter window, some electrical issues and a motor that wasn't the healthiest.
The engine, LS1 5.7 litre out of one of our local Australian performance cars that tried to turn itself into an Ostrich.
This is after giving the motor a bit of a clean up and ceramic coating the headers.
So I ordered the full kit from Renegade Hybrids in Las Vegas, they got the bits together and air freighted them across here to West Australia within the specified time.
Included in this kit was this lovely radiator with twin thermo's on the back.
I went with this option because we often have 100 degree + days here.
Also included was this sump.
You can see the shape of the sump to clear the cross member and sway bar, it's a close fit.
You can also see these little doors to control oil surge.
Because the top of these engines are a bit uggo, I found some engine covers on e-gay and got one of my mates to paint them in darkish grey and got another mate to knock up these stickers and apply them for me.
I think they look great.
Below you can see the new oil pick up compared to the stock chev jobbie. This is obviously because the oil reservoir is now at the other end of the donk.
So there we were, motor pretty much ready to go in. All it needed was the motivation to do it.
Will post some more pics up later to bring us up to date.

looking great.......
However you already had a 300hp euro...now you have a 350hp LS conversion.....it seems like a bunch of work for minimal gain assuming your 928 engine was running...
However it will be 200lbs lighter and sits further back in the car...so should be slightly rear heavy!!! Which is great

Is that an early 90's GSXR rolling frame in the first pic?
Cool project by the way.
350 or not, LS1s are capable of low 13s or even high 12s in the 1/4. That a lot more tan a stock 300hp 16V.

That's the BLOWN12 you can see in the later pics. It runs a K1 gixer tail and Z1000 headlight. Top gear wheelies off the throttle.
One of the reasons this project is going slow. I re-rebuilt two of my bikes at the same time.
I don't know what the stock 4.5 litre is supposed to put out, but I can tell you is wasn't anywhere near 300hp when I got it.
Mind you, the new owner of the original engine is very happy with it now he's sorted all the issues such as water pump, injectors and timing etc.
I can't see this car going anywhere near 12's not with the tall first gear. But I don't care about that, but I'll let you know how it goes when I get around to running it.
Will post more pics in a couple of hours which should bring us up date as of last Sunday.

Love the look of the motor the way you dressed it up! Looks sweet!
I think she will drive like the devil! Post some video's and describe the before and after on her performance, handling etc.
Don't know the numbers but you should have a healthy gain in TQ across the board which is fun on the street!

Post some pics of the bikes too! Did you get that engine out of a Holden?

Definitely keep us posted. I've got a LT4 in my '80. It was a 250HP Euro swapped for a 425 RWHP (dyno confirmed) normally aspirated LT4. A "PorsChev."

Someday I really want to drop an LT5 into a 928, seams like a perfect match.

Actually, if I ever have the time and money to try such a project, I'm going to start with two perfectly good cars and swap the engines.
Imagine the look at the local Vette club meeting when I pop the hood and there is a 928 S4 motor staring back at them.
