Hey Dave,
I'd seriously worry about the timing belt, because I'm not so sure its not a non-interference engine anymore. I have all new belts and a water pump in my backpack, ready to go Of course, I'll probably need a hand with a flywheel lock and tension tool when I'm down there though if anyone can provide. 6-pack is on me!

Well, I'm in fountain valley, and boy is this car rough. None of the gauges worked, and one tail light, and one headlight worked, as well as 3 turn signals with the hazards on.
After looking at the scariest fuse panel ever, we rolled the fuses, and now nothing worked, then the fuel pump stopped soon after. The relay has a jumper already.
After a while of cranking, it started again
Don't get me wrong, I'm ready to walk, but I'm 1200 miles from home, and this isn't what I had thought I had been led to believe.
If the gauges worked, and the lights, I'd probably buy it.
Anyone in the area of fountain valley who knows these, ill be in town tonight to do something, but not sure what.
Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh!!!!

You could try going to Radio shack and getting some plastic-safe contact cleaner, spray it on the fuses and rotate them. Do this with the battery disconnected. Also wiggle each relay out and reinstall, same with the connectors at the bottom of the panel. Connect up the battery and try again. If the only problem is corrosion, this might help, you can clean it up thoroughly when you get home. If the corrosion looks to be getting up under the insulation on the wires, you should probably pass unless you like electrical work.
Headlights and taillights are fused per side, could be just fuses.

Life's to short to waste it on dying cars.
Walk.
Fast.
In the long run you'll end up with more free time to ride that beautiful MV.
Trust me on this. I know what I'm talking about.

I think I'm with Phil on this one... I'd love to have the car and do x y and z to it, but at the end of the day, I just can't do it... I need it to be more reliable and at the least, the paint to be presentable.
We're talking about paint chunks missing from the front bumper, and paint bubbling on corners of the rear fenders. The entire interior is completely throw-away, aside from the front seats, but they're hideous, and I sometimes like ugly car-stuff.
I had met the builder of the engine at his shop, Haus of Performance, and seen pictures of the car when it was built back in '87. The engine was jaw-dropping! Now, it looks as bad as that twin supercharged strosek 928's engine. Remember that one? Covered in dirt, everything looked ancient and crappy, and it just kinda let me down... I did hear it run, and it revved up pretty quickly, and it sounded like it made some power, but the car is only worth as much as the engine. Whatever that is.
He really does have big money in the car, and the engine literally has 9900 miles on it, but it hasn't really been driven in 16 years.
In the morning, he's taking it to the shop where it was built back then, and is having him try and sort some of the electrics out. I'd love to have the car, but there are SO many unknowns, and I'm 1200 miles away without a way to get it back aside from driving it.
This car should be stripped down, repainted, interior gutted, caged, and made into a track day car/street sleeper.
From what I read in the receipts, its a 10:1 compression 4.5l engine with custom-ground Elgin cams, Weber 48s, new clutch bits, new (then) brakes, konis, some sort of lowering springs, new ps pump, and the usual engine rebuild bits. It has a period-correct Fitipaldi steering wheel that I kinda like... Comes with a set of 18" Antera wheels in actually nice shape (the ugly fat, rounded 5-spoke ones ) as well, no tires on them.
It has 30k worth of receipts including $19,xxx of work done back when the engine was built and suspension was done. Supposedly it has solid suspension bushings as well. MSDS headers into a y-pipe and back into the stock muffler (why that wasn't replaced, I have no idea).
Thats the story! And he wants 5k firm.

I'm staying at my brother's place off of Mulholland Drive, and will be madly searching for a vehicle to purchase to drive up to Seattle and then resell to at least recoop my losses for flight and time, with the assumption that I can't be convinced to purchase this car (and then sell the Anteras). I'm also looking for motorcycles as well.
Any leads are appreciated. I may get a rental car to view some vehicles for the next day or so and am willing to travel to view some good ones if found. This kinda sucks! But, its an adventure and a calculated risk, so I'm ok with it overall

What type of Anteras are these - what style and size? I'm not sure what you mean by "ugly fat, rounded 5-spoke ones".
They used to make a style that looked a bit like phone dials. If it's of that kind, I may be interested:

If anyone hasn't mentioned it how are the brakes on a car that hasn't been driven in 16 years?
Lot of time for corrosion stale/bad fluid to kill the calipers.
Think Nicole is offering S4 front brakes for sale on the other thread.

Why not rent a uhaul pickup/trailer and tow it back?
One thing to note..Ken O up here found a 928 with a heavily modified engine..bigger cams, ported intakes, adj. cams etc.. engine was pretty nice..but it's still a 4.5... Not even gonna be close to what you get starting with a good 5.0

Charley, PM me on the bike.
Nicole and others, here are the wheels:
And yes, one of the reasons I'm looking at a bike is the coast ride, since I'm in no hurry to get up to crap weather in Seattle
I'm looking at some Germans (shocker, I know) while I'm down here, and a guy is bringing by an M3 convertible (1998), and I also have a 90s 500SL with both tops on my radar.
We'll see what happens! If worst comes to worse, I'll buy a late model ZX6 and tear up the coast.

I have an extra Ducati 900SS SP in excellent shape that I rarely use that I might be willing to part with... (I also have a 900 Superlight factory race with plates on it, but that is not for sale.....) The SP's not an Agusta, but then again, not much is..
I have too much stuff at the moment, and am trying to make some space on unused items in the barn/stable...
A blue and silver MV F4 is on the list though.. However, I need a bigger barn/shop first...
If it piques your interest, send me a PM..
Cheers,
