I'm jumping in late here, someone else might have already asked but, how do you repair any body damage that can't be massaged out?
Would a minor side collision total the car if you didn't want to paint it? (nothing to hide body filler)

Clint has SERIOUS passion for cool cars....hence his interesting fleet of unique vehicles!! Not to mention his 928 4.5L engine and Maserati 4.9L engine he bought for fun... I'm lucky that he fabricated just about everything in the "widow".... theres always something interesting around the shop....

MIG actually, i only use the TIG on aluminum and stainless, the MIG is so fast and easy on this regular steel
yeah a 1L bike engine would be alot more fun, but part of me wants to keep the 600 nameplate true, but if i come across a 1000cc engine that is a great deal i go with that. newer the better too, bike engine technology has greatly improved in the last 20 years.
they have been done with mixed reviews, there is a nice grandnational turbo v6 in one, pretty quick but id rather go with a more modern, lighter and effiecent engine.
a highly skilled metal worker can repair minor dings good as new, new sections of 304 stainless can be grafted in for lager hits but must be done perfectly then regrained. for real bad hits new fenders are avalible, just dont hit the Left front fender, that is the holy grail of delorean body panels, $1400 for a NOS one, if you can find one. where the other side is just $400

Kick @$$! Although dontcha know that you cant put Type R and Vtech stickers on a honda that actually has these?

I have seen a number of them painted because it was not an easy fix. I know my neighbor down the street had to remove the entire side from an accident to have it repaired. I drove by his house the other day and I was pointing out the DeLorean to my wife as it drove up the street it sounded awful like it was running on 2 cylinders then I realized it wasn't his. It was a second one his was sitting in the driveway and appeared to be repaired. I believe he had to replace the entire side and door with a clean panel from another wreck and the only place that needed finessing was along the roof line. A good metal worker should be able to make it look like new assuming you can find the parts.

yeah something like that, they are so expensice becuase there just arent any new ones out there.
as for the honda z600, they stopped that car and made the civic in '73. the market for a micro car ( Kei car) is nil in america with its demand for large heavy sedans that get a 1/10th of the MPG. honda needed to make standard size cars to become a true player in the US.

the Rear suspensions is all done, engine may go in tommorrow
ive gone through all my reciepts and found ive only spent $800 on parts so far. not bad i say. the labor ive done is probably about $6000 :lol:

dmc16, thanks for the answer. now how do you regrain the stainless? do you have to scuff it with some type of abrasive, or is there some special method? I'm very curious...

for minor swirls or imperfections a standard scotchbrite pad will do it, preforably the brown ones that are rougher, for larger scratches, 80 grit sand paper on a block will do it. the factory method is a air powered flapper sanding wheel which is very hard to find and hard to master.
last weekend i finished up more things, the car is back on the ground with its one refreshed suspension corner, engine is back in and running ok. i routed the wiring harness under the manifold to help clean up the bay and degreased the oil pan too.
rebuilt the caliper
with a bit of spring cut out i dont need a coil compressor anymore to remove/install the shocks.:biggrin:
you can really see what cutting a coil and a half did, i like it. now the front HAS to come down.
so i have the car running better, but it was idling at 4000rpm due to a poorly adjusted throttle linkage but fixing that brought it to 2000rpm
so i took it for a spin around the block, it nearly died when i gassed it so i did a quick u turn, i realized i had very little gas. so after i picked up 2 more gallons i when for another drive, it feels better but still alot of noise in the front end. the brakes are much better though. then i got back to the garage and i had no reverse!! so i raised the car and re adjusted the shifter cable, works now!

oh i want to get to work on it, it will be easy for a change because its so stripped out. my main rush on the D was to get it movable so i can get it out of my garage to repair the damaged garage door. dont want that falling on my baby. i also want to have the car on the road by the lemons race so i can use it as the pace car!

No affiliation just buy for work. They sell the 3M flapper wheels with or without the scotchbrite in between the sandpaper. I use them all the time. Just need a light hand with them. If you don't see it they can get it if you call.
